Horizon Zero Dawn Releases New Gameplay Video, Details World and Questing

Today, Sony has released a hands on preview of Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games, that goes more in depth into what players can expect from the game especially as it relates to the questing and game’s open world. Check out the footage of the content multiple media outlets had access to:

Horizon Gameplay Details

On the Playstation Blog, the staff came away from the hands on session with several takeaways about the game.

  • The world is a massive multi-region map with several vibrant areas.
  • Campfires are unlocked as you discover them and then serve as save points and fast travel points.
  • The game features a stealth mechanic similar to the Elder Scrolls series based on a closed eye-open eye system. Sound waves will radiate when you make noise, such as walking on rocky paths. Heading through long grass and staying crouched are the ideal way to sneak.
  • Selecting weapons and ammo happens on the fly, and the game enters slow-mo while doing so, which lets you change tactics in the heat of combat as well as engage in some split second crafting.
  • Aloy’s scan feature lets her scan enemies for weak spots, read items and track things of interest such as NPCs or patrol patterns. You can tag a machine’s path to plan your attack.
  • There are a multitude of tribes and NPCs to interact with and obtain quests from.
  • The game’s dialogue features conversation wheels and narrative driven flashpoints which allow 3 different approaches that will determine how your relationships will play out.
  • Underground ruins and audio transcripts will let you learn more about the world that came before.
  • The in game map is a 3D topographical map that allows you to see elevations and the lay of the land much better. The world features a day/night cycle and weather system that affects gameplay. For example heavy rain can reduce line of sight and render fire strategies irrelevant.
  • The game will feature a photo mode that allows you to pan the camera and play with a variety of editing options. You can then share the images you capture.

New Screenshots

As is customary with new info reveals, Sony also released some new screenshots for the game which are always gorgeous vistas. Check them out.

  1. I have not been as excited for a game in a long time as I am for this one. Really hope it ends up being as good as it looks.
