Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos is Confirmed to be Released in the Summer of 2023

Harvest Moon celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. It is even more special with the upcoming title “The Winds of Anthos”.

Developer Natsume has been teasing us ever since December of last year with hints of their upcoming game. Last year, a mere logo and name reveal were enough to cause a ruckus. However, they have also recently confirmed that the sequel will be released sometime in the summer of this year.

Even better is the confirmation that the slice of life game will appear on all major platforms. PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and both PlayStations will be able to partake in this life sim.

Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos will take place in the titular land of Anthos. This is a beautifully rich land that is home to what are known as “Harvest Sprites”. These spirits are the silent caretakers of the land and the population. They are even known to be stewards of the Harvest Goddess.

A sudden volcanic eruption caused the Goddess and all her sprites to expend most of their magic in order to protect the land. Humanity was saved, though at great cost. While they survived, most lands were cut off from one another, never to interact again. That is, until now.

The Pressing Matter

A recent press release was held by the CEO and president of Natsume, Hiro Maekawa. We have been able to confirm many of the expected features that make a Harvest Moon game.

We will be primarily managing our very own farmstead, along with all the crops and animals that come with this. Unlike say, Harvestella, we will be growing crops of real-life produce and not those fantastical fantasy versions of popular foods. We will grow corn, squash, and pineapples. Players will also need to gather various seeds from different lands in order to fully diversify their farms.

Caring for animals has always been a big part of Harvest Moon, and The Winds of Anthos won’t change this. The usual options like chickens, cows, and sheep will definitely be the most common. However, farmers will also get to play around with more exotic animals. These will include things such as parakeets, rabbits, wolves, or even Bengal tigers. Mounts will also be in the game, but will not be limited to only horses.

Drip-Fed Harvest Moon

The official Natsume Twitter account has been drip-feeding eager fans with random game screenshots every so often. In fact, the developers have been so secretive as there isn’t even a full trailer online for the game. Instead, they have been giving us some beautifully artistic looks at various elements of the title.

Some of these images include the game’s nearby town, Providence Village. You will get to meet new people, such as the town’s leader Westley and his younger sister Vivi. Recurring characters will also make their appearance, like Doc Jr. We also confirmed that there will also be potential love interests mixed into the game, for good measure. There are a total of 10 different characters who can be romanced, 5 bachelors and 5 bachelorettes.

Another confirmation is that there will also be five different downs, each with different seasons. Sounds somewhat like Harvestella‘s different regions. We also do not currently know what will make The Winds of Anthos more “unique” or if it will try something out of the ordinary as Harvestella did.

Harvesting the Moon

Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos will arrive “some time” this summer of 2023. No price point, physical editions, or collectors editions have been announced just yet. The title is also the 6th game created solely by developers Natsume, as they were originally just the distributors of the game outside Japan.

The Harvest Moon series is traditionally known to be quite a successful life simulation RPG. Players had open-ended objectives and could choose to tackle challenges in the order of their choosing.

If you’re interested in Life simulations, be sure to check out our coverage for Harvestella. It was a charming mix of RPGs and Life Sim that doled out both styles in equal quantities.
