Gamer’s Guide: Handyman 101

Gamers are often mocked as unfit and incapable when it comes to manual labor. If your anything like me, you’ve succumbed to the apathetic ways of a typical 9-5er. And thus, your to-do list has only gotten longer due to failed attempts, frustration, and further procrastination. The truth is that most of your DIY projects can be completed quickly and efficiently  with the proper information and tools. I’ve outlined four points to help you shorten the list.

Gamer’s Handyman Guide

  1. Know the task. This will often kill your ambition if you’re trying to do something that you have no idea how to execute. Use search engines, pictures and even youtube for ideas. There’s a near limitless fountain of information at your disposal, use it to your advantage to get it done right.
  2. Have the right tool for the job. Trying to hang pictures? Tapping your hammer on the wall is NOT the right way to find the studs. Stud-finders are available at any hardware store for about $20. A simple example of how a little research will help out!
  3. Don’t over-think it. This one’s a biggie. Chances are that your task at hand shouldn’t need too much head scratching. Biggest cause to this problem is that there is too many Chiefs, and not enough Indians. If you have some buddies helping you out, take control and make the decisions otherwise you’ll spend 3 hours arguing how it should be done.
  4. Be inspired to create beautiful gaming works! Perhaps a medieval suit of armor? Or a duct-tape helmet! Anything goes.
  5. Know when to hire a professional. Sometimes you need to swallow your pride, pick up the phone, and hire someone who knows how to do this. Things such as deck-building, stone veneer, and landscaping are all DIY tasks, however serious repercussions may occur if these jobs aren’t given the respect and attention they deserve.

By following these guidelines you will save yourself time, money, and a lot of Advil.
