Halloween Events 2022, As Told by MMORPGs

Halloween returns this 2022! As usual, most online games have started trading in sunlight for cobwebs as the most frightful time of year starts up.

It’s time for a spooky season once again! While we do enjoy a good horror game every once in a while, RPGs are always going to be near and dear to our hearts. That doesn’t mean these genres can’t join in on the Halloween fun.

Every year, online games take this time to add creepy crawly elements to their titles. Here are just some of our favorite entries for this year’s Halloween festivities.

Final Fantasy XIV – All Saints’ Wake

Final Fantasy XIV’s Halloween celebration is called the All Saint’s Wake. Running from October 19th to November 1, players will be able to start feeling the cool weather and pumpkin spice in the air.

The Haunted Manor

A new quest will be available in Old Gridania for all players to enjoy. The Adventurer’s Guild needs some help with the mission called “A Mad Masquerade”. Here, players will be able to earn costumes such as the Wake Doctor’s Outfit, or even a dyable caged wisp furnishing.

Chow Down on Pumpkin Cookies

To even further up the ante, a new area will be opened up beside the Haunted Manor for a yard party. This beautifully macabre location is perfect for taking photos with friends or even simply munching down on pumpkin cookies.

Lost Ark – Mystics and Mayhem

Our favorite MMO/ARPG hybrid, Lost Ark is also joining in on the festivities this year! The first-ever Halloween celebration for the Western release was announced back in early October. Arkesian citizens will receive the Mystics and Mayhem update coming on October 26.

To look the part, this Halloween event will add spooky cosmetics, as well as some Autumn casual wear. The Halloween-specific outfits are specifically a mix of punk and horror, making things look quite disturbing.

Neria's Wardrobe - Halloween Edition

The more chill clothes are part of the second edition of Neria’s Wardrobe. These are the customizable mix-and-match outfit sets that quite often grace the shores of Lost Ark. Here, we can expect some stylish hoodies, vests, and other cute dresses.

Other than that, this Lost Ark update will also include the Vykas Inferno Mode difficulty, a new guardian raid, and a new abyss raid.

Guild Wars 2 – Shadow of the Mad King

Next up is the world of Tyria in Guild Wars 2. With this, the annual Shadow of the Mad King event rears its ugly pumpkin head once more. The main hub city of Lion’s Arch will once again be transformed into a land of eternal darkness, trading buildings and houses for cauldrons and catacombs.

It is said that the Mad King Thorn is able to walk the lands of Tyria only during this season. As such, he chooses to terrorize Lion’s Arch and gather all the unwilling subjects in one place. He then forces citizens to participate in a macabre version of “Simon’s says”. Those who survive are granted special keys to receive more goodies.

Mad King's Clocktower Halloween Event

Another recurring Halloween activity in Guild Wars 2 is the Mad King’s Clock Tower. This extremely difficult jumping puzzle has players race to the top of the tower as an ever-rising deadly fog creeps ever closer. Heroes of Tyria must brave the tower, all while everyone else is doing the same. This activity is quite notorious for its difficulty, but yet the sweet taste of victory is ever so good.

For those who prefer a serious grind, the Mad King’s Labyrinth itself opens up once more. Players can explore the labyrinth and take out various glow-in-the-dark skeletons or plastic spiders. They may even encounter the Grand High Viscount of Candy Corn, or a Skeletal Lich.

New World – Nightveil Hallow

New World’s recent Brimstone Sands update actually also included their Halloween goodies as well. From now until November 7, players will have access to tons of creepy Halloween cosmetics that they can receive by exchanging Marks of Fortune.

Hello Baalphazu

More importantly, the demon Baalphazu, Marquis of Terror, and his Pumpkinites are all spreading fear all throughout Aeternum. The NPC Salvatore the Mad will send players off on a limited quest that will award players with some creepy loot. Players at least level 35 can attempt to join. This event will last until November 1.

In terms of the in-game store, there will be dozens of new options to choose from. Weapon-wise, players will get to purchase things like the Werewolf’s Shield Skin, or The Devil’s Poke Spear Skin. Everyone, even the newly implemented Greatsword will receive a cosmetic option or two.

There will also be some creepy Halloween masks to fully immerse yourself in the season.

Elder Scrolls Online

Last, but not least, is Elder Scrolls Online’s Witches Festival. The MMO’s Halloween celebration started last October 20th and will run up until November 2. With this, all our usual scary sundries will make a return, such as XP boosts, Plunder Skulls, and the ever-famous Event Tickets.

Players interested in joining the event can start by accepting the free quest “Witchmother’s Bargain” in the Crown Store. The adventurers who’ve participated previously no longer need to do the starter quest anymore.

As a reward, boss monsters that players kill will drop Plunder Skulls or Dremora Plunder Skulls. These can be exchanged for some event-appropriate rewards, such as furniture or outfits. A new daily quest called “Plucking the Crow” will also offer these skulls as a reward.

Lastly, this Halloween event will also grant players two Even Tickets for the first boss kill, per day. Meaning, players can accumulate 28 tickets in total from the Witches Festival. As always, players are capped at carrying only a maximum of 12 at a time.

This is Halloween

It’s high time for the various heroes of all these wonderful online worlds to sit back, relax, and grab a handful of candy. What’s your favorite Halloween-themed game event?
