It’s not long until the launch of Battle for Azeroth which releases next week on August 13th 2018 at 3:00pm PDT. This expansion will count as the 7th instalment in World of Warcraft, it will heavily focus on the two faction war between Horde and the Alliance. In this guide learn how to prepare yourself for BFA as well as learn some useful tips for leveling.
Getting Ready for World of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth Guide
If you find yourself running out of things to do in WoW at the moment, you can prepare some of these items which will help reduce your leveling time as well as help you survive the hostile environment. Unless you are a ‘Goblin’ (gold maker), you can take a look at some of the suggested items which will inflate in the Auction House after launch. In this guide I will share all the recommended consumables, additional helpful items and tips for new War Mode (PvP function) as well as leveling.
There are some useful items players can stock up on in anticipation for the release of BFA. These items are all available for purchase at the Auction House but prices and availability will fluctuate depending on the usual supply and demand.
Flask of the Seventh Demon (Agility) / Flask of the Countless Armies (Strength) / Flask of Whispered Pact (Intellect) / Flask of Ten Thousand Scars (Stamina)
Depending on your class and spec, focusing flasks will help boost your primary stats, these include Strength, Agility and Intellect. Flask will help you temporarily increase damage output, to help with killing mobs in dungeons, raids or leveling much quicker than usual. Those who wish to increase their chances of survival will need to use the stamina buff which will help increase HP.
Defile Augment Runes/Lightforged Augment Runes
Preforming class hall missions can grant Defile Augment Runes, however they are also available for purchase from the Auction House. This buff helps to increase your primary stats for an hour and acts similarly to Lightforged Augment Rune, only major difference is that Defile Augment Runes are consumed upon use. Those who wish to purchase Lightforged Augment Rune instead, can do so from Argus for 50,000 gold, but will need the requisite of having Exalted reputation with Lightforged faction.
Food: Bear Tartare and Fighter Chow
Despite recent changes to Bear Tartare, it will be a useful consumable for leveling as it can speed up your movement after you kill an enemy. If you are a DPS player such as rogue or hunter, taking Fighter Chow will buff your healing speed when you are out of combat. It’s a solid choice for solo leveling as you won’t have a healer to help you.
Healing Potion: Astral Healing Potion
Purchase some healing potions if your class doesn’t have the ability to heal itself. It’s better to be safe than sorry as this can come in handy in a tight spot to keep yourself alive.
It’s strongly recommended to stockpile these in your bag before the price spikes after the expansion launch. Due to map design in BFA there are a lot mountains, the Goblin Gliders will help reduce your fall speed. Use the glider to travel faster and avoid taking unnecessary fall damage. However, these won’t be so useful for Demon Hunters or when you finally achieve flying later in the expansion.
Other Useful Items
Water Strider Mount
This mount gives you ability to travel on water surfaces unlike other mounts and because most of the islands are surrounded by water, this mount will save you a lot of travel time. Due to the fact that this mount is not easy to get, I would not call this a necessary item but useful nonetheless.
Elixir of Water Walking
Alternatively you can craft yourself Elixir of Water Walking using the Alchemy profession or purchase the potion. This potion will allow you run on the water for 10 minutes, just be aware of any damage will cancel the effects.
Things to Know About Leveling
Not everyone likes to level the same way, some people want to hit max level as soon as possible, while others prefer to take their time by reading quest logs and maybe a bit of roleplaying, whatever you’re into. Here are some useful tips to keep in mind when you set out on leveling from 110 to 120.
For those who want to hit the ground running, turn on your War Mode as it will give an additional 10% experience boost. Afraid of getting ganked? You should be fine as most of the opposite faction players will be busy with the leveling too. The opposite factions cannot travel to your place at the beginning. Turning on War Mode will grant you extra PvP talents against mobs which can help you out a lot.
The early quest given in the expansion will give you the Heart of Azeroth (HoA), this is similar to the artifact weapon in the Legion expansion. Prioritise this quest first as HoA gives you a lot of secondary stats (Critical, Haste, Mastery, Versatility). Also if you purchase a legendary with 1000 Wakening Essence, buy Kil’jaeden’s Burning Wish. This legendary item used to be a low-tier legendary in Legion, but it looks like it will be an extremely strong in terms of pull and cause huge AOE damage to mobs in BFA.
Another recommended legendary item would be Prydaz, Xavaric’s Magnum Opusas it gives you an extra shield on yourself every 30 seconds, a good feature for new players. Players should note that after reaching level 116 legendaries will lose their effects.
Make sure you have two primary professions before you start your leveling journey in BFA. Any profession is fine in this game, pick two that interest you. If you don’t know which ones to choose, pick a gathering profession such as mining, skinning or herbalism. Gathering will be quite profitable at the start of the expansion, after a while the crafting profession will be more profitable due to supply and demand. While you are leveling your character, you can do the profession quests which will gain you extra experience.
For consumable items, most of those can be crafted if you already have those recipes and materials. Before 8.0 pre-patch launched, I already crafted a bunch of goblin gliders for myself so that they will be ready to sell on the auction house, as this a good way to make some gold.
I would suggest turning on War Mode while leveling but you can turn if off maybe after a month later as ganking will be more of problem later on. If you do have trouble with the opposite faction, simply go back to your faction capital to turn it off.
After hitting level 120 you can focus more on gaining reputation, as this will be the way to unlock flying in BFA. You can also start endgame raiding and dungeons, the first raid tier will be available on September 7th.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth will launch on August 13th 2018 at 3:00pm PDT and is already available for pre-order.
