Gamescom 2020 has officially been cancelled due to the pandemic and will be replaced with a digital event.
Gamescom 2020 Cancelled, To Be Replaced By Digital Event
Gamescom 2020 which was meant to take place in Cologne, Germany this August has officially been cancelled. The German government has now banned gatherings of large capacity, extending it to the end of August due to Covid-19.
The official Gamescom twitter account put out an official statement stating that in regards to this measure “in no circumstances” will they move forward with a physical event. Instead they are opting for a digital event. This has been the norm with a number of industry events being cancelled, the biggest being E3 2020 which will now focus on 2021.

Just last month Gamescom organisers shared the list of participants who had already signed up for the event, including major publishers and developers, CD Projekt Red, Bandai Namco, Microsoft, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom and more.
As for when the digital event will take place, most likely between August 25th to 29th which were the original dates for Gamescom.
