The team behind the Forza Horizon racing franchise, Playground Games, has been brewing up plans and acquiring some notable talent for their next venture involving the creation of a AAA open-world, action-RPG.
This drastic change in genres was set-off by the UK developer’s recent purchase of a second studio, which will house 200 people, bringing their total headcount to 400.
And the talent being brought on board are industry veterans that includes Sean Eyestone, the senior producer for Star Wars: Battlefront II, who was also a former Kojima Productions employee of five years and has had a hand in big titles such as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
The others being Juan Fernandez di Simon, a former senior designer on the action-adventure Hellblade, from indie studio Ninja Theory and Will Kennedy from Rockstar North, who worked on GTA V as a designer.
Apart from their new hires and new direction, there’s presently no other information on a premise or a release time frame for Playgrounds’ upcoming game. So stay tuned as we’ll be keeping an eye on this interesting pivot.
Forza Horizon is an open world spin-off series of the Forza racing franchise, which made its debut on the Xbox 360 console in 2012.
