DS3 spoiler: your choice doesn't matter

life spoiler nothing matters

Not correct, Its assumed in DS3 that the character in DS1 linked the flame, if you do the dark end, its somewhat of an alternate reality. Just because DS3 exists doesn't invalidate your choice in DS1.

no, not an alternate world if u choose dark ending. just means another undead comes along, kills u, and links the fire. thats what ds2 was all about, showing that u get the same world no matter which ending u choose.

It does matter; the Chosen Undead's actions shape the world and the lives of all it's people for an age. Thousands of generations will live with the consequences of their choice. It's just that, as we learn in Dark Souls 2, the world is stuck in a cycle.Whether you rule as a Dark Lord or burn yourself as a Lord of Cinder, things will go on without you.
The Bearer of the Curse and the Ashen One are the only two who can truly break the cycle, but that doesn't mean the choices of the previous Lords was meaningless; just that time advanced and things changed.

until DS3 where the ashen one absorbs the flame through the power of Kaathe, ending the cycle

age of fire just comes with an another fading flame which just make undeads suffering from this endless pain again. on the other hand, dark soul came from the first flame, with the flame fading, the humankind will lost the abillity to rule, its just an "AGE OF SERPENTS".they just bow for you and sneer behind you for your foolishness.

So then, which endings are considered 'canonical'???
By Anonymous
#16124069
Canonically, the Chosen Undead links the Flame and becomes the second Lord of Cinder, after Gwyn. Later, the flame is once again linked by another being, and again, and again; eventually, Prince Lothric refuses to link it, and this puts in motion the events of DS3.

at the age of dark, does all bonfires fade hm? So immortality of undead is over or what?
By Anonymous
#16235190
Undead don't NEED bonfires to return; the curse is what causes that.
Bonfires just serve as places of respite for them. If you're skeptical, just think about what bonfires are made of: the ash of Undead and their Humanity. Undead created bonfires, and as such, would be able to exist after them.

It doesn't matter if you light the fire or not. The age of fire will come back, even if you chose not to kindle the fire. It's a cycle that repeats indefinitely. And the age of dark is not the real age of man. Because the fire will come back some day. The only solution to get the age of man is what you do in the best ending of DS3. The age of Hollows.

you got it kind of mixed. in dark souls true ending you dont light the flame, you take it into your soul and absorb it. you basically become an OP god that posseses all the fire in the world, whereas the age of dark is a reset of the universe.

i dont hate gwyn for stuff he did to people i hate him because he started the cycle...dragons were neutral but gwyn and the other lords greed the damn greed...the world would have been a better place the way it was.i believe some of kaathe words are bullsh!t like he says gwyn has resisted NATURE but this sh!tty cycle isnt nature, its the most unnatural thing i ever saw. so you wanna see nature? well get down to ash lake...thats nature and thats how the world was supposed to be. it was gwyns greed that had brought this horrible things to the world. but you think dark is better? no... whatever that takes a role in this UNATURAL cycle is evil, greed will consume all same as it consumed the witch of izalith who wanted to have a flame of her own as it has consumed the whole world by this cycle as it was the element of which has gave birth to the abyss and so on...THE FIRST SIN means greed to me .the events of ds3 and so on...none of the would have happened
