From the forge waypoint go behind the platform where you fight the armored creatures down to the lava area by the mithral deposit. You should see a cliff overlooking an island surrounded by lava with a statue and an altar with an adamantide chest. Cast feather fall on a character with atheletics, have them hop down and pick up the chest, then fast travel back up to the waypoint and drop the chest back on ground.

Then lockpick and do the dialogue. I think they are wisdom checks requiring 2x 20 dice rolls. Equipping the amulet puts a buff on you that says it requires a wisdom saving throw or you go mad.

i used that spot to nuke the lava elemental with the returning pike. Bonus, doing so gets rid of the lava bubbles.

Pop the lava bubbles and leap across the platforms, or summon mage hand and have it carry it back to safety hah

I sent the amulet directly to camp instead of picking it up. Now it won't seem to talk to me. So I might be locked out of the quest.

Did you equip it? You get an "ability" to talk to it in your common power bar.

There are three versions of this amulet.

1.) When you pick it up, the blue with shatter, restore ki, and the High Spirits debuff (forcing you to succeed a will save every time you use an ability or get smacked for a round of Tasha's hideous laughter every time you fail.

2.) A blue version with no abilities worth 125 gold pieces. This is obtained by taking the monk's curse, succeeding x2 saving throws, and permanently gaining the ability to cast Tasha's hideous laughter.

3.) A purple version that retains the level 3 shatter cast and the ki restoration per long rest. This is obtained by choosing "God's no. I don't want to inherit your curse." and surviving the ensuing fight. This will remove the high spirits debuff, leaving the monk cursed to laugh for all eternity. This option can grant up to 450 exp if you down the rest of the level 9 zombies he raises before bringing him down.

See somehow i have blue version with no abilities and didn't take the monks curse. The fight started with 4 zombies when i said no to the curse. and now i have no idea what is supposed to happen as i still have the quest. I don't have tasha's laughter either

There might be another but I'm not sure. As a Monk I picked this up and have the rare variant with abilities. After a battle and a short rest, I lost the high spirits condition but retain the shatter, restore ki, and talk to amulet. There was a Monk related dialog option I used when i first picked it up but idk if that had anything to do with it.

My "blue version with no abilities" seems to increase my hit rolls by a random bonus when equipped.

Until the last patch, I am sure that I could restore at least 6 ki points. Too bad they lowered the number to 2

The blue "cursed" version is only 2. If you refuse the monk's curse the ability changes to restore Ki equal to your martial arts die (I'm assuming 4, 6, 8 based on Monk lvl)
