sound like a nub asking for something like that

There's already weapons that apply scarlet rot. Wouldn't be too crazy to assume there was a whetblade for it.

I don't know why a sword with scarlet rot buildup would be more broken than sprouting a dragon head and spewing it over a football field. Lol

how do these work?

when you put an ash of war on a weapon you can choose an affinity to put on it
By Anonymous
#16601193
iron i believe allows any ash of war to have a heavy, keen, or quality affinity. glintstone allows any non-split-damage ash of war to have cold/magic affinity and allows cold/magic ashes to swap. Same for the other types of affinities.

So you can have you groundslam ash of war give a bleeding affinity to the weapon it's on if you have the black whetblade, and you can make a bleeding ash of war, like sepuku, give occult or poison affinity.

You can never do something like making sacred blade into a fire or cold affinity

Changes the weapon scaling for weapons you can change the skill.

Say you have a skill that grants Keen affinity, making it scale heavily with Dex. With the Iron Whetblade you can make that Quality (Str/Dex balance) or Heavy (Pure str) affinity.

More whetblades allow more options for changes.

They let you choose your weapon's affinty when applying an Ash of War, regardless of which affinity the Ash of War normally comes with.

For example, if you apply the Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of War to a weapon, you can normally only give it a cold affinity as a result. But if you have the Iron whetblade, you can instead choose between the cold affiity or any of the affinities the Iron Whetblade adds (Heavy, Keen or Quality).

imagine missing these

If they did implement a whetblade for scarlet rot and the others, it would have to be a serious scaling nerf and damage nerf. Like going from B in STR to E and base damage 310 to 210. Otherwise it would be broken in both PVP and PVE. Much like how frost and bleed are currently

Everyone says how bleeding is broken, but it doesn't feel that way to me. You can buff hammers to hit for 10k damage on a hit, but bleed is broken? To me it just seems like they spread around some of the power potential sorcery always had to the melee builds

Well no...Scarlet would just have a low build up for balance between 20-30 max. Proc would require spells or other uses

Hammers that hit for 10k damage arent easy to achieve though. You need to have royal knights resolve on both of the giant smashers dual wield which is a lot of equip load and you need the cape that increases jump attacks along with the claw talisman. Not only that you need flame grant me strength or some other buff that increases damage and then you have to activate all the buffs at once and hope you dont miss. To make things even harder the recovery time of large weapons is extremely slow so you cant afford to miss. to say that buffing hammers is broken is extremely ignorant considering how you can easily get oneshot by dual nagikabas and a lil bit of arcane. Bleed is broken, dont pretend it isnt.

given antspur rapier, it wouldn't need low build up or reduced scaling at all. frost and bleed also are not broken in pvp, yall just cry alot more than when you get one shot by a hammer.

i feel like sleep would be fine with decent scaling, especially because the effect is so easy to roll out of in pvp, compared to madness, and we already have relatively cheap sleep craftables, so why not weapons?

That's a pity they didn't make similar item to level weapons instead of smithing stones.

Kinda agree, Smithing Stones always seemed like a bad design decision, as you always have to invest into a weapon when you want to try it. It just keeps me from trying out the new weapons I gather throughout the game. Maybe something like skilling a weapon type would be more interesting as one could try a weapon without penalty if the skilled that weapon class.

You can buy infinite stones rather inexpensively form a lady across the hall from the smith...

Ahh yes non-game designers making recommendations to an og company that has let out bangers. Just grind the game. Doesn't take much to load up on runes and buy them from the twins.

Coldflame...? So you could never proc the Frostbite effect I guess. Deathflame via Eclipse Shotel-like would've been cool and obviously balanced to have between a 20-30 build up range max.

#16649123
coldflame could function like bloodflame where its a dot that increases the build up.

Why are these available towards the middle-end game?
By Anonymous
#16642873
They're spread out between the early and mid game. And why wouldn't they be?

Other than sanctified/black, you can get them all before entering the Atlas plateau. And you can get them those before Godrick.

They aren't? They're very early and early-mid.

Even Altus is still early-mid game. You can rush there as soon as you want, just can go in Leyndell until two shards which is still early.
