Do these apply bleed on hit, or on block??

Most likely, it only applies when striking with the shield. It is a bash-type shield, after all.

fun fact, you can 2H a shield and use it as a weapon. There's no one serious about playing this game that's going to do that as a main strat though

I've been two-handing greatshields and bashing things the entire game
That being said, briar greatshield really does need buffs since spiked palisade is easier to get and only slightly heavier for the exact same playstyle

Hey shield only is valid. Someone already did it.

why is this basically the spiked palisade shield but with slightly worse stats? i was at least expecting the cool shield bash the boss does with it

slightly lighter as well, and the stat are not so much worse. But the looks are incredible compared to the spiked palissade

I'm pretty sure the boss is basically doing a kung-fu move, augmented with the shield. Either of the boss's bashes would be great - the tetsuzanko back bash, and the ground pound. I guess I'm going to just use Shield Crash.

Spiked Palisade shield has a different weapon art in Shield Crash which is a more offensive version of Shield Bash. It's much slower and the block frames don't come out until mid-attack, but if you charge it, it'll multihit for devastating bleed buildup. This shield here is an option if you prefer a standard shield bash I guess.

You can swap between either shield crash or shield bath with both shields, so yes it is a straight downgrade of the palisade shield. Another souls game, another objectively useless piece of equipment. They love putting these in the games.

Pretty sure dual wielding shields is kind of a meme, but it's a meme I'm dedicated to. Spiked Palisade + Briar Greatshield, try out different swaps between L/R handed and have a see how weird combat becomes.

The only thing this shield has going for it is the low weight. Even then, sub-100 physical block is pretty bad.

I don't get that mentality. If it's 80 physical or less then I get it but who cares if you take 15 damage per block?

yeah 100 phys block is not needed - especially considering that the damage the shield doesn't block is reduced by your armor. Something like Bestial vitality is all you need to counter the chip damage.

I actually really like this shield. Only 2% less physical and 1 less stability than the Palisade Shield and ways 2 less. Also, it looks sick.

when i saw this i was expecting a special ability that if you hit the shield you take small damage

The Virgin Blood Trident vs the Chad Greatshield lacking 100% physical damage negation

Dissapointing shield but no talking about stats... The boss has 2 moves with shield:
The one that slams the ground with aoe explosion and the shield charge/dash which is a nice move.
Kinda sad...
