This isn't the right condition, I killed a lot of them and he didn't aggro me. Then he did after 25h of playthough, I have no idea why.

Well, I'm not OP but he didnt give a **** when I left the sanctum the first time, I literally killed a single dude out there then got my *** handed to me, respawned at the sanctum, left the sanctum again and he instantly aggroed me

This is an optional boss as players must NOT defeat it to advance to the Legacy Dungeon?

So you cannot kill some bosses or you're locked out?

Of course not, you can kill him if you want

What they mean is you dont have to kill him, not you cant kill him. Its a bad translation or just bad wording really

It means you "do not have to kill but can if you want to", not, "must not kill".

It's just phrased badly.
Don't think the author knows what "must not" means.

Most bosses on this wiki have use that wording and sure enough, on several boss pages I see people confused about it and worrying they're locking themselves out of the ending.

I used a 2h colossal weapon and just hit and run using torrent. Keep your distance if when it is using its sword, and start getting hits when it is using its halberd. Play around the grass and not the stairs. When it is spinning using its halberd, be on the higher side of the ground and not the lower side, and you won't get hit. Focus on hit and run using charge attacks and it won't take too long to kill it. If it is staggered, don't be afraid to go off torrent just to get the critical hit, but then immediately call torrent back afterwards.

clear strat for bestial sanctum black kindred blade:

1x Crepus's black-key crossbow
99x regular bolts (buy)
99x bone bolts (craft)

1x Longbow +4
99 regular arrows (buy)
99x fire arrows fletched (craft)
99x bone arrows fletched (craft)
99x bone arrows (craft)

now that you have ammo and weapons, all you need to do is shoot the gargoyle through the door and crouch behind the pillars when it uses it's screaming attack. Get away from the pillar if it's using spinning magical AOE attack. ez.

I am lvl 68 and it feels like I am barely tickling that dude. Tried mace, greatsword - it gives no **** about different damage types.. But i bet my ***, in couple months we will see some players killing him at level 1 with bare fists, naked.

I was level 80ish with 40 vigor and I beat him with melee. He doesn't have many attacks that are hard to dodge besides the halberd sweep. It'll be a long fight, don't get greedy. Stay in his face when possible. A lot of his attacks miss when you're close up. Also, I wouldn't bother attempting the fight with melee until you can safely take one hit without dying because you're bound to get hit unless you're a god.
