If you're fighting on foot, stay close. His close range attacks have way better openings for follow up hits than his mid range attacks do.

There's a bit of a cheesy, exploitative strat you can use to make the fight trivial:

1. Go on foot.
2. Get behind him. I found the best way of doing this was to run or roll under his crotch.
3. Position yourself behind his left leg, around the back of his knee.
4. At this point, his next attack should be an attempt to spin and swing at you with his right arm... but because you're colliding with the back of his leg, he misses and you get dragged and stay behind him.
4b. To make this more consistent you can try walking into the back of his knee while he's attacking.
5. Feel free to spam attacks until either he roars, or you lose the position.

In general, even without this cheese, I found the fight easier on foot than on horseback.

Seems to work fine with both legs and it's consistent. Good cheese.

At ~60% of health he gets additional attacks & can do 180-turn in one second so you gonna end under his belly where he can pound you.
Here's advice for anyone still have problems:
6. Ride in big circles around boss, provoke his long-range grab, evade it (its easy, just keep distance) and after that immediately go smash his leg 2-3 times and gtfo. Repeat till he dies.

I would like to add a little comment. It was easier for me to stand at the right leg and hit him in the calf muscle. The boss in 90% of cases simply doesn't get you. You can hit even without dodging (until the second phase). I also liked the poison against him.

The teleport is on the right side of the map about halfway between the first and second bonfire in this area. It is on the top of a fallen round column that slants up to a platform on the broken base of itself.

You can actually cheese this one, since if you run far enough away he'll respawn back in the pool, but with the same health. So in theory, you could sneak up behind him, hit him once, then quickly dodge away (if he's awake) or get 5-6 hits in before he fully wakes up. Rinse & repeat, running away each time. A complete cheese however, so anyone with pride won't try & kill him that way.

You can sneak up behind and get a free visceral with only a few fully charged strong attacks, it was 4 for me. 15-1600 damage before the fight began, every time

You have to teleport to the boss. The tp is on the right side of the river at the top of a fallen over pillar you must walk up. There are two tps in the area this one is hidden kinda

Just killed at SL 30, highly recommend mounting and running at and through his right ( your left) hand, and then doing 3-4 attacks on his legs and feet before looping around. Takes a while (used +2 golden halberd) but only took one hit using this method.

Waygate is on top of a structure/mountain type thing with some archers nearby, not sure exactly where.
