I think it's north of the long river at the beginning area. The area has jellyfish and skeletons.

jesus my dumb *** read that "girl that promised to see the stars with her sister" of her info and thought it was a berserk reference because of the girls from the lost children arc.

There's Berserk references all over the entire SoulsBorne series, so I wouldn't be surprised.

This thing seems to be great against the Stonedigger Troll boss as it’s projectiles stun it

Can confirm, Stonedigger Troll was covering its face and moving slowly and somewhat "blindly"

How about a poison build up component? Any information on that?

Not sure of the specifics, but as I recall in West Limgrave the times that I summoned this spirit (no upgrades) enemies that got hit 2-3 times would get poisoned. Mostly I used them because they're slowish to move, so I can pretty much plant them as an aggro-drawing turret. The fact that the spirit also inflicted poison was a nice extra effect, but wasn't ever the reason I summoned it. I suppose if your character also uses poisons a lot it would be more significant since both of you would be contributing to poison gauges.

It's good for drawing aggro in boss fights and the poison can be nice free damage on bosses

It has a small lunge attack that's a joke damage wise and with it's move speed it might as well be stationary

If the jellyfish is summoned next to the jellyfish at the stargazers ruins it will unlock a magic seal somewhere
