I saved Daeyena and found two Flawed Contamination Spores next to the Magicockerel's henhouse on Reaper's Coast. Those two facts are probably not connected, but for completeness sake.

So I wanted to save the chicken and when I tried I instantly went in combat with an army of chickens and the scion was siding with them ... I blame Zelda for this!

I'm running the GOG version, but I have the same latest version as Steam which is 3.6.64.2709. (I know because I've played with my friend who plays the Steam version and you can only do so with the same version.) As I was playing the game he was hosting, I stumbled into this ship. I was surprised by it because I hadn't seen it before, so I looked into it and obviously found this. I was excited to try going to it in my solo game, but I'm not seeing it in my solo game which was started quite a while ago. Is it possible that this shows up only in a fresh game, or am I missing a step somehow?

Do note that "Flawed Contamination Spores" do not create Armour Pieces. They only explode, causing poison damage in a small area. What you need is a "Contamination Spore" (there is only one in the game - in the possession of Magister Carruthers). When you use the skill Trigger Spores, it causes the Contamination Spore to explode if it is in the area (or in the inventory of a character in the area), applying a debuff on the character nearest to the Spore (if any are in range). When that character dies, the Gloves will appear on their body.

While you can kill one of your own characters to do so, you can actually give the Spore to any NPC that allows trading, trigger the spore on them, then kill them. The most ironic way I found was to steal the Contamination Spore from the Scion's prisoner, then sell the Spore to the Scion. She'd trigger the Spore on herself :)

[But how do you get the spore?] -> If the Scion is alive, she will be torturing a Magister prisoner at X: 437, Y: 319. The Contamination Spore will be on the Magister. Either pickpocket it from her, or engage a fight with the Scion and either loot it from the Magister's corpse if she died in the fight, or receive it from her if the survives. Alternatively, letting the Scion perform her ritual will have her cast Trigger Spores on the prisoner, killing her in the process, and she will loot the Gloves from her corpse. /////// -> if the Scion is dead, Magister Carruthers will be with the other two Magisters in the Blackpits at X: 716, Y: 164. You can pickpocket the Spore off her, or persuade her to give it to you. ///// In both cases, do note that you do not need to get the Gloves in Reaper's Coast. If you don't get them there, you'll be able to get them in Arx.

[the only spore is not obtainable before arx, right?] -> It's the only (non-Flawed) Spore you can obtain yes, and you can only obtain it in Reaper's Coast. In Arx the Spores will have sprouted already. (You can get any pieces you didn't get before in Arx; you are not obligated to kill the Scion to loot her Armour Pieces in Fort Joy/Reaper's Coast).

thank you so much! glad I found this before going to arx, the spore was like 5 meters from the dead magister at 434, 316, and so small that I did not see it, but with the activation of teleport I found it easily

Tip for the fight in Arx: using Trigger Spores will apply knockdown on any enemy creature caught in the area, with the exception of the Scion/Paladin. So it's very useful to learn Trigger Spores on all your characters and use it in that fight!

How irritating. Taking Peeper to Magicockerel triggered these as enemies.

The magisters attacking Daeyena in Fort Joy gave me no experience, is this normal?

usually magisters give you exp but in this case, they do not provide any exp. Larian probably didn’t want to give too much extra exp to the player that’s why you see the meager +25 exp when u explore new places

Game is balanced around xp. Since these are new quests - too much xp would unbalance the game
