I'm not so sure. 10 maximum of these per playthrough is pretty limiting considering the large number of equipment that relies on it. It's not like you just start with them either. Of course, this often requires forethought and careful planning, which in itself is a good thing. Unfortunately, also foreknowledge, which really just discourages experimenting for yourself and maybe just looking up the best usage, and how to acquire them.

DeS is probably the worst example of balance. Half the weapons are complet3ly outclassed.

Fall damage is partly determined by how much your equip weight is. Taking your armor off just reduces the fall damaghe. You don't "have to," but it's less risky to do it with no armor on.

You don't, wearing light armour (silver coronet, old ragged robes, silver bracelets, old ragged boots) I hardly took any damage from the falls.
