I mean it existed in ds1 and 2 but I think that they stopped doing it due to material balancing reason

armor upgrades are useless grinding. better spend the ressources and time leveling up more weapons.

No Need for all that stuff , they already gave a great category in which Players can buff themselves up with Personal Stats with Leveling Attributes ( Crafting Menu might have Defensive Item options to Buff up Survivability ). And there might be Armor Enchants , but not Reinforcements that was old in DS1 & DS2 i think.... The main focus now is upgrading Weapon Armaments , Ashes of War and Stats thru Attributes thats fairly simple and fair much like Dark Souls 3 system.... ( There is Robustness , Focus Resistence , Death Res , Poise etc ). All of these Stats will be related to Leveling Caps with Attributes , and Gear selection including Items like Consumeables from the Crafting Menu section

There wont be armour upgrades , the main Stats will be Reinforced in those major options. ( Leveling Cap Thresholds , Crafting Menu Items or Consumeables , Gear Sorting wether its Light , Medium or Heavy with the added Stats & Resistences... And finally Magical Spells or Incantations ). All of the Core Stats in Elden Ring are tied to Attributes aswell in which you'll level up from and that's a fair simple just like DS3 System... The good parts are in Weapon Armaments , Ashes of War , Glint Stone Sorcery & Incantations... The Crafting Menu also appears to be very Vast in terms of Blue Prints and Recipes to craft Consumeables , Ammo , Throwables , Enchants etc... The Endurance Attribute in Elden Ring is actually tied to Physical Defense , which explains why there wont be Bonus Reinforced Armors just weapon upgrades and maybe other stuff but not Armour Upgrades to be clear ;)

where was that interview that claimed there was an item that could upgrade to plus 12? if they do that i think it will go like this, assuming the normal material progression is still here and they don't add any new materials
Shard goes up to +6
Large Shard goes to +12
chunk goes to +19
Slab goes to +20
I think it might go up to +20 (for standard weapons, perhaps special weapons upgraded with special materials we will see +10?) because of the scope. the size means there needs to be more variance in player strength to correlate to the bosses. and there will also be more places to hide upgrades for the player.

Although controversial, I'm a bit happy upgrades won't be utilized for Armor...although I would appreciate if they did something like being able to "Enchant" armor say utilizing an item to increase one or two defensive stats, but also decreasing one or two opposing defensive stats I think that would be fun.

There will be Crafting Menu Items that would utilize and buff up Major Survivable Stats like ( A consumeable item crafted from the Menu which would Enhance Robustness , Death Res , Poison/Fire/Magic/Lightning Res and other stuff like Falling Damage or +Defense ). This is much more Verastile than having to Upgrade an Armour which then might be easier to play with.... However there's still Armour variaty options ( There's definitely the Light , Medium & Heavy Gear system which is present in most Souls Games ). This way build variaties will be tremendous & versatile too.... There's also Ashes of War options , those could be equipped within Shields which is already enough of diverse options to even the Squishiest Builds lol.

Cant wait to have that insane Build of mine... A heavy tough battle mage with a Fashion Soul hint to the overall character look.... I can already feel how Diverse and Versatile the Crafting Menu and Ashes of War system would be next week ( And Farming the best Gears , Weapons , Spells , Recipes and Ashes of War would take me awhile to have my Final look for the Character ). Goodluck everyone on Launch next week , may your Journey be brighter than that Huge Bright Tree in the Center of the Hub Map in Elden Ring.... Let's get it Tarnished with folks lol Adios.

If anyone with an early copy could update this wiki for the full release it would be much appreciated. Is there a "Raw" upgrade path equivalent that removes all scaling? Is there a Faith scaling path? Chaos?
By Anonymous
#16430439
There is no Raw option, but you can choose to use an infusion ability (such as a Sacred Blade) without affecting the scaling at all, but also not getting +base holy on the weapon. It just becomes an option to cast a projectile, while also buffing your weapon with holy damage, as opposed to using Grease consumables.

There is no Chaos 'element' in this one.
