didn't the Pail King give bugs intelligence or higher thought and the Radiance wanted a mindless kingdom? the bugs didn't have intelligence

That is correct. The Radiance had them in his control in a mindless and feral state. The Pale King granted the bugs sentience, sapience, freewill, and a higher intelligence. Thus, they chose him over the selfish, self-worshiping Radiance who was essentially holding them back. I’m on the side of the Pale King; though he took drastic measures, he is good. He had good intentions to protect Hallownest and destroy the Infection and annihilate the Radiance’s reign of terror. The Radiance is basically the Lucifer (the devil, a fallen angel of false light) of Hallownest.

I don't thing Hornet was referring to whatever happened to the knight outside of the kingdom, she was likely making some reference to the Pale King.

They are “creations” of higher beings made of Void called Vessels, not technically “children” of PK and WL (though some may say so in a metaphorical sense, not a physical sense). The Pale King and the White Lady were not actually husband and wife, contrary to what some assume about them - they have no relationship aside from working together to create the Vessels. And the Vessel beings are not dead. They merely broke out of their Pale shells and and became fully Void as Shades living in the Abyss where they were created.
