How did Owl get the 2nd mortal blade? He doesn't have it when you talk to him before the "First Boss"

I reckon he went to face Genichiro while you were fighting the 2 bosses, and ultimately ended up victorious, in the end.

Prolly from Genichiro?

That's what the last scene is with Owl coming over to Isshin's corpse after you kill him. He is picking up the black Mortal Blade right then off of Isshin. Isshin is the one who has the black Mortal Blade to begin with, but during a normal playthrough Genichiro "borrows it".

He’s carrying Genichiro’s head in the cutscene the camera blocks most of it though. He didn’t sit around doing nothing while you were fighting he went and killed Genichiro

Genichiro has the 2nd mortal blade

presumably he somehow found genichiro and took it from him

There is a video on youtube (I think Vaati) that shows when Owl comes with the blade, he also brins Genichiro's head with him. It's just off camera in-game, so we can't see it.

I don't know what I did differently during my Shura playthrough but the requirements seem to be a little more than retrieving The Lotus of the Palace and The Shelter Stone. After I got them Ashina castle was not locked out. This is presumably because of the alternative ways you can get to them? When I did it I did not go through Senpou Temple area completely yet, so I did not do the Inner Sanctum part (Folding Screen Monkeys/Mortal Blade). I am going to assume that getting the Mortal Blade is actually a requirement, which isn't stated otherwise in the description. I was not able to get Owl to appear until after I went through that section and got it.

Yes, the mortal blade is a requirement to have the castle locked. They should update that.

killing the folding screen monkeys is required, getting the mortal blade is not

You can't get through the gunfort to the flower until you have the mortal blad and kuro unlocks the library so you can get the gunfort key
By Anonymous

You don't need to have the mortal blade to go through the gun fort and get the flower.

SPOILERS I really have a big issue with this ending I just wanted to obey the Iron Code I didn’t want to kill owl. Not only that but I didn’t know when making the choice that I would be locked from the rest of the game. I also want to know, why do we not get Owls sword that Wolf picks up in the cutscene?

if you didn't want to kill owl then you are supposed to get the shura ending, you evil human devoid of emotion. Owl is literally trying to get the dragon's blood.

You just made the wrong choice and have to live with it

the sword is the second mortal blade,Owl went away before the fight with Emma, killed Genichiro, got the sword, came back just in time to put Genichiro's head before the corpse of Isshin and so on.... In the unlikely event of a dlc,i hope we can use that sword.

Personally, this is the true NG ending tbh, a brief tutorial of a sort before you get into the full game in NG+. It’s like the whole NG, Wolf is actually having a nightmare about what he COULD become if he stays on the Iron Code’s path

Yeah i did the shura ending to make it seem like it was a nightmare for wolf and then the ng+ could be done in a good ensing

the first choice is to obey the iron code. despite his asking again still this is solid true ending. back then isshin stopped sekijo but there is no one stop sekiro now.

I looked up the possible endings and went with Dragons Homecoming for my first playthrough of the game, only because my brother got the Shura ending and I wanted to best that. lol

The ending won't start after I beat Isshin on NG+....very strange

better do this ending on second playthrough or never at all. dancing dragons mask and dragon tally won't be gone after NG and almost essential. best is to side with kuro than curve into purification ending so you get +1 memo and +2 bead. from this point nothing changes much except some unique consumables but no big deals.

I got this ending because I didn’t want to break the iron code or face Owl cus he looked scary af haha. But straightaway regretted it cus I had to kill Emma and Isshin... good folk I shared monkey booze with dammit! Strangely I don’t feel ripped off despite being an “early” ending and I don’t do NG+. Speaks to how good the game was
