thanks for the cheese tip, much appreciated. i did this mostly from right next to the ruined village obelisk. alerted him to my presence to activate his health bar, used a "good" ashborne longgun then started with power shot to the back vulnerability point to take off approx 1800 health (i have expertise 22), then 3 grenades (after the capacity upgrade shrine) then ran back to obelisk and repeated power headshots (approx 400 damage each shot) from right next to the obelisk while his shield was down. he couldn't retaliate with anything, just stood there. i just used a few consumable energy potions and ammo packs to continue the power headshots until he was dead. a cowardly cheap tactic for a cowardly cheap boss, seems appropriate. as an old souls veteran i have been taught to be as unforgiving on my enemies as they are to me. no remorse, into the forest i go. loving the game so far btw

If you wait for it to walk 3 steps past the exploding cactus near the drop-off between the obelisk and the first island pillar, the boss won't turn around and will keep making its patrol loop without aggroing. If you are using the sniper you get later in the level, Imperial Executor, it only takes 8 weak spot shots to bring this boss down. Only problem: it feels like it takes FOREVER for this boss to make 8 loops. Compared to waiting for heads hot opportunities, I think that the "three steps past cactus" method is just a LITTLE bit faster and doesn't require any ammo packs. Hope this helps!
