Not for nothing is the word dark in Dark Souls.

Yeah i hate how dark souls loves to make NPC turn against you, without a damn good reason or a proof of hollowing.

That's most NPC's fate in this game. When they have no purpose in life anymore, they become hollow. Just take that NPC who'll sell you (teach you) his miracles, he'll go hollow after you learned everything from him, as he lost his purpose in life. Laurentius thought he was a great pyromancer. But he saw you had greater pyromancies than his He then left the Shrine, and I think he met Quelana on his way to Blightown, and had to acknowledge she was way superior that he will never be. That when he lost his will and went hollow.

What about Siegmeyer and Frampt? I know Siegmeyer leaves pretty quick but he's a noteable presence

Frampt is a *****. In the second ending he is also there to serve the chosen undead, who is his new lord although in the playthrough he states that he is gywn's friend

In fact, I would argue that he's one of the best if not THE SINGLE best character in the entire SERIES. I'm not talking morality, he's a backstabbing jerk... but his lore and his role in the game fit perfectly. Crestfallen Knight, and Griggs never did anything wrong, but they're on the list of "bad" characters because anyone would agree that they're unconvincing personalities with a single character trait - no multiple sides to them. Laurentius is a good character because his storyline pulls at your heart strings - I've seen plenty of people feel bad when he goes hollow, unlike the Crestfallen Warrior, who people don't give a crap about, and Petrus, who to my knowledge doesn't go hollow in the course of the game but nobody gives a crap about him, and Griggs, who nobody gives a crap about when he goes hollow, if people even bother to complete his questline. Lautrec, on the other hand... plenty of people give a crap about him - not in the way of feeling sorry for him when he dies, but in the way of getting extremely mad at him when he kills Anastacia. The fact that he's able to induce that type of emotion is the CHIEF INDICATOR of a well-made character.

Him killing the fire keeper isn't very deep, and people only get pissed off because it's really inconvenient. The fire keeper says nothing is just a lady in a cage. We Get pissed because we can't use the fire or upgrade the flask. Lautrec also has like 2 lines of dialogue, and doesn't have any obvious or justifiable reason for attacking the fire keeper. It's just for the sake of throwing the player off guard and they just had to make a characater to do this.

Quelana and Engyi can still upgrade your flame. Quelana can also ascend it for more powerful pyros.

Haha - i found myself in a similar situation - i was in Anor Londo having a hard time with Orstein and Smough and the question came up; Do i push and clear through the boss to get the Lordvessel - OR truck from Anor Londo back down to Sens Fortress > Undead Parish >Firelink >New Londo Ruins > Blightown. .... You know what happened....
