Grass Crest/Sanctus fans would care to disagree. I neither like nor hate the Spider Shield, personally I like the Grass Crest for DEX builds, but before that I use Dragon Crest, which you can get with the Master Key immediately after reaching Firelink.

It's basically the counter-balance with the Dragon Crest shield as... • Dragon Crest shield has the same weight and stability • While the Dragon Crest offers good fire resist, it's really bad against magic. • While the Spider Shield offers average fire resist, it's a slightly better against magic (and poison). • Both have the general same amount of lightning resist (50%). The one thing that makes the Spider Shield better in the long-long run is that it's a "regular" shield, meaning it can be far more upgraded than the Dragon Crest shield for far less (and cheaper) materials AND can have an elemental upgrade if needed (which makes it better than the Dragon Crest Shield when maxed with fire +10)

Interestingly enough, the design is based on a shield found in From Software's first title, Kings Field (the Japanese only release) further showing how they like to make callbacks to previous titles.

Wrong information here, the weight of the shield is actually 3.0 not 1.5 units.

This shield is very useful in getting through blighttown. It negates posion/toxic buildup from attacks when you block them.

I'm very stupid and I dropped it in the area I found it because I thought it was just a low level shield, now I can never get in or out there without being prisoned

If you started as Bandit, you can get 3 of them in a single playthrough. If not there are still two more. One is in the Depths: Kill the first Butcher and drop down the hole behind his table. It's on the ledge you land on, so don't drop down again to the sewer floor before grabbing it. Second one is with the Bandit set on one of the bodies on the bridge with all the blue Drakes in the Valley of Drakes. Whittle them down by poisoning them with arrows, suicide run and try to homeward bone out, or just kill them by any other means, just grab the items on the corpses and you're good. If you're quick you can dodge their attacks, snatch all the items, then run across the bridge toward the locked gate and zip up the ladder on the turret just to the right and get yourself the Red Tearstone Ring too, then homeward bone out with ease.

But why drop something just because it's low level? You don't have to worry about inventory space, can clear clutter by sending to the bottomless box, and if you really don't want something you can feed it to Frampt for extra souls.

Knight Shield == Noob Trap.
Spider Shield blocks poison aux effect and has a max stability of 70.
Knight Shield is pretty, and pretty useless.

Yeah but that’s not really saying much. If you get the master key you can get the dragon crest shield right away and it outclasses the knight shield.

The "Locations" portion of the "Acquired From" section misleadingly implies that one can pick up 3 Spider Shields in one playthrough (if you didn't start as bandit). However, it's redundant as it mentions the Valley of Drakes shield twice.

Actually very good all around medium shield. Great stability/weight ratio, 100% psysical damage reduction and unique ability to block all poison/toxic attacks. Low magic resistance is only flaw.
