what is the point of upgrading past +3 if it doesn't give anything extra at all?

so if you upgrade this weapon past +3 it will give you an extra 9 damage on the dex scaling for +4 and +5 each. i have 35 dex and a +5 penetrating and i get 90 +98.

So question because it does stronger piercing attack do the backstabs and riposte do more?

if i got killed before I could pick this up is it gone forever?
