Not in the remaster. So i guess the ring originally did boost pyromancy, but was then changed during development and they forgot to adjust the translation, wich was then fixed for Remastered.

Yeah it does, even in the Remastered. But only inside the character creation. I've been wearing this stupid thing through half of my playthrough until I finally read the description.

To all the people saying that the trade sucks because there is only one sunlight maggot, there isn't. Once you get to Chaos Servant+2 you are able to get another. It is clearly stated on the Sunlight maggot page

Bro, there is only one Sunlight Maggot in this game.

You either walk all the way behind the shortcut and kill it to get the Sunlight Maggot, OR, you can get to Chaos Servant+2, which opens a shortcut where that Sunlight maggot is.

How the hell did people even find out you have to wear a useless ring of a witch from the character creation to talk to a mute spiderwoman who is in some underground cave system?

Seriously, it's old NES games levels of cryptic. I can't imagine playing this game when it first released in 2012, no guides and you basically just have to play off of pure instinct.

I 100% get what you mean. Maybe from the "witch" part(?); It was probably discovered by a guy that wore it the whole game.

She is one of two mute characters, the ring says its, "seemingly useless" which means it isn't, Quelana mentions there family, gold-heemed set calls her a witch. Plus the ring is written in the language of the kingdom there from.

Especially around release with 1000s of people playing at all hours somebody is bound to find something and then post it. Not like the old days where you relied on strategy guides for this stuff.

Her mother is the witch of izalith, it's called the old witch ring. How is that complicated? I don't understand.

The IQ of gamers dropped sharply. I sincerely pity people who are too fragile to face frustration and need guides to enjoy a game.

I guess it's because the ring used to say that it boosts pyromancies so someone was wearing it without realizing it actually doesn't, and if you're playing for pyromancy inevitably you're going to want to join the chaos covenant. You see her dialog, go to a forum and see that she talks to some people and to someone doesn't voila it's the ring.

old witch = witch of izalith, quelaag's sister is pretty obviously connected to her

it literally isn't that hard to figure out. it's called the old WITCH ring and the fair lady is the daughter of the WITCH of Izalith.
