I think that this gesture is static. Your character messes up at first, puts wrong arm up at first in an alien greeting. Then after one ten seconds of nothing happening he realises his mistake and awkwardly switches hands.
You get the rune from the brain and praise from the doll only after you change hands, so they recognize it is now correct)

I believe this gesture is a form of ritual or worship , since the room where you learn this from lies right in sight of the moon , perhaps it was used to guide the light of moon for say blessing or whatever
