Why this wasn't carried over to dark souls 3 is a complete mystery to me, it was one of the most novel ideas for a chime I've seen in any of the games, and would have made a wonderful addition.

Yeah, would've been good to have a casting weapon for Faith builds that isn't the Rose of Ariandel.

it IS a bummer, innit? i know most people needlessly hate this game because their favorite youtube e-celeb *** told them to, and soul memery was total *****ing garbage, but the game honestly did so many small things RIGHT. and EVERY SINGLE ONE of these good things was stripped out for 3. 3 was such a***** game imo. how people rank it above the previous entries is beyond me

How people rate DS2 better than DS3 is beyond me. DS3 has less content, that's it. Otherwise it's better in every single way. Since this is the DS2 wiki I expect few people here to share my opinion, but I could rant about the thousands of flaws DS2 has for days. DS1 and 3 aren't perfect, but they're both better than 2. Not saying 2 isn't a good game, otherwise I wouldn't be playing it, but it could be so much better.

Thought the same exact thing. They did a great job of bringing in a lot of the good things from 1 and 2 in DS3, but there's still quite a few things things that were really cool in DS1 and DS2 that were continued. In some ways I think that's good though. It keeps them all unique. As it stands, there are still a crap ton of people playing DSR and DS2: SOFS.

I was just looking at something similar like this shield in DS3. I did a pvp build in DS2 around this shield back in the days. A hex/faith with only this shield as melee weapon, so most of the stats went into int and faith. Very fun indeed.

I ain't gonna lie, I FAR prefer DS2 to 1 and 3, both of which frustrate the hell out of me. Majula was the perfect hub space, there is no goddamn city areas to get constantly suck and lost in, the closest (no man's wharf) is still linear and learnable. DS3 has goddamn elder horrors blooming out all over the place in the zone past the first goddam boss (who is a good starting boss I'll admit unlike the goddamn asylum demon from 1) and I simply cannot get out of the city without getting smashed from all the ambushes. DS2 is the perfect balance of 'get gud' and help if you need it. Humanity and effigies are easy to understand while the equivalent items in 1 and 3 don't seem to make a difference when used.
No. Obviously this is, like, just my opinion, maaan! But No. DS2 is the best of the 3 by a long shot. I can't compare Demon's Souls or Bloodbourne because I belong to the PC master race and can't understand why those games weren't ported to PC. Ah well. Ramble off.

Agreed. There are many things in 2 and also 1 that I miss every time I play 3.

Holding it in the offhand seems to slightly boost miracle damage.

Tested this by hand, it increases miracle damage by roughly 3%.

So it doesn't actually increase the effectiveness of miracles when you cast them from the disc chime, you have to cast from a chime in your main hand while this one is in your off hand? Do I have that right? And it only increases the damage of miracles like lightning spear; it doesn't increase the healing from great heal or the damage/defense buff of sacred oath, right?

Best weapon to punch someone with, and cast miracles for the base game content. Then again, you could get the Champion's Seal (Which, I went out of my way to do that for three hours. ***** that*****.), which, both can do 500 damage with high enough stats, then up to 700 with the right rings.

This shield is very useful for Sorcerers who do not want to waste to many of their souls on strength or dexterity, and want to specialize in many forms of spells. This thing is passable as either a shield when blocking anything not fire/magic, also good as a chime, and does good damage when used to smack people (tho be careful of the short range!), and it's small boost to miracle effectiveness is a nice bonus. For those looking for advice of what to pair this with when on a purist sorcerer: I'd probably at least use a regular or thief dagger in case I need criticals/backup weapon, and at the least get 5 strength for a small leather shield infused with magic to make up for the lack of parry and low magic and fire resist of this shield, and fire longsword can be okay if you are willing to get 9 dexterity. All that for 4 level ups is a good deal.... and you having something to hold you until you are willing to enter the sewers. Clerics might also wish to consider using it despite their good starting strength: either as a way to save equipment slots for other things, and/or just to smack enemies with pure lightning damage without use of offensive spells.
