The 2 kite shields are pretty decent for being lightweight, giving 72 stability, and giving 100% physical protection. Also they look decent... but they don’t do much for elemental protection. It’s hard to get that and stability though

Looking for the best shield? Quick guide. ~~STABILITY~~ The Greatshield of Artorias has the highest stability overall. The Silver Knight Shield has the highest stability of any medium shield. The Balder Shield has the highest stability of any infusable medium shield. ~~DEFENSE~~ Havel's Greatshield has the highest average defense of any shield. Havel's Greatshield and Crystal Ring Shield tie for highest magic defense at 90%. Black Knight Shield has the highest fire defense of any shield. Effigy Shield has the highest lightning defense of any shield. ~~SPECIAL~~ The Grass Crest Shield vastly increases stamina recovery - one of the best shields end-all. The Sanctus grants HP recovery over time. The Crystal Shield and the Spider Shield both have 100% toxic and poison block. The Greatshield of Artorias has 100% all status effect block. Havel's Greatshield has a "Stoneskin" ability instead of a shield bash.

Of course, don't forget the Heater Shield. Obtainable in about fifteen minutes on ng; one of the lightest shields, useful if you're playing a lighter character; the only 100% physical block shield with light parry, excellent for riposting or blocking at user's leisure; gets good stability (or fire defence if you go to Fire +10, 84% if you need it on this) for its size. Only major downsides are its bad lightning- and pitiful magic-defences, so if that's a deal breaker...

I actually just started a shield only because of Bofuri: I don't want to get hurt so I max out my defense. It's going really well but I just realized after getting the stone greatshield more damage slips through when attacking with the bigger shirts

I hate these exaggerated things people say about Dark Souls. There is very very few instances of being one shot at normal vitality in this game and it’s unfair to say things like this to hype the difficulty

Most bosses can one shot you.

Many powerful enemies (titanite demons, mimics, oolacile sorcerers, etc) can one shot you

Many area are designed with drops that let even weak attacks one shpt you (Sen's Fortress, Londo Ruins, Anor Londo)

And if even one weak attacks hits you at the wrong time, you can be stunned too long to Dodge or block the next enemy.

It isn't an exaggeration to say one attack k csn lead to your demise.

Most bosses definitely cannot one shot you. The other examples are true including Havel but these make up nothing when you consider the full scale of the game. If a player fails to raise their health in a game where everything tries to kill you it’s on them if they face a lot of one shots
