The Estus Flask is so ugly like why did they have to make it that ugly orange color? It should be a dull green with an orange glow when you use it like the original. And they got rid of the Estus dripping animation...like whyyyy

"Estus" is derived from the latin word "Aestus" (Heat, Ember)

imagine saying that dark souls 2 becomes easier because you have so much healing from gems, disregarding the clear reality that you can just offer 3-4 humanity at a bonfire to get a whopping 20 estus uses. Ok im bout' to head out.

20 estus doesn't sound like much compared to the hundreds of healing items you can very easily get in dark souls 2 also most players probably wont even know what the Rite of Kindling is or where to get it the first time playing the game and even if they did they probably wont be able to defeat pinwheel. basically Dark souls one makes acquire 20 estus an extremely difficult thing to do while dark souls 2 throws dozens healing items at the player and has merchants that sell infinite amounts for a relatively cheap price

not to forget that unupgraded estus doesn't heal that much and there is only 1 obvious Firekeeper Soul in the game. You'd have to either kill some Firekeepers or find the hidden Souls in Blighttown/New Londo/Dukes Archives to actually heal a reasonable amount. And 10 Estus+1 is a significatly different story than 20 Estus+7...

What do you mean, "Most people won't make it past pinwheel? He has some dangerous attacks but he dies before he can use them!

there is a lot of healing itens and a lot more enemies. Also, they are mostly in groups and they are faster to run and to hit, so it is all about balance, imo

You can clear your first game cycle easily enough with an unupgraded flask, but later cycles it becomes an issue of needing to heal to prevent being killed by a second hit, so an upgraded flask becomes critical.

The estus flask upgrades to +7 likely because there are only seven unique fire keeper souls. One in Undead Parish. One in New Londo Ruins. One in Blighttown. One in Duke's Archives. And then one each for the three surviving firekeepers (Firelink, Anor Londo, and Quelaag's sister). It is possible to fully upgrade the estus flask without killing any firekeepers with just two game cycles, in fact you can go from +4 to +7 at the very beginning of NG+ by using the master key reverse shortcut path. You will need to kill Quelaag to get access to her sister though as collecting both the Blight Town and the Undead Parish firekeeper souls will trigger Lautrec to kill Anadtacia before the bells are rung.

The souls are unique to each character, not to each NG, which means if you pick up a fire keeper soul you cannot pick it up again, ever. To get +7 you'd need to kill all the keepers to get their souls and use them to reinforce on the next NG cycle.

You’re reply is completely wrong. All firekeeper souls respawn in NG+

bruh i just realised, if you find another estus flask and shatter it you would have a lot of estus shards. so then you could upgrade the one you use.

Hahaha haha!! If only if were that simple I love your concept.

At that point you may as well just fill both and use them, although maybe shards would be worth more than the full flask?
