I used a combination of magic, melee and pyromancy. Summoned Benhart, casted crystal Magic Weapon on my sword and rushed in and got some hits in. From then tried to melee Elana as much as possible. When she does her Dark Storm, get out of range and fire Soul Spear (or better) or re-cast Crystal Magic Weapon. When she is summoning the skeletons, cast Firestorm (or similar) which will bring all of them down to low health (my stats 46 int, 26 faith, +7 flame). If she summons Velstadt, try to kill it ASAP. Try to keep ol' Benhart alive as long as you can!

I was too much of a wimp to try any of the close range flames but I did use warmth on my allies as they fought her so they would last alittle longer

Respec (if necessary) to a strength/ strength + faith(intelligence) character, get a huge weapon, say, what I used was Drakekeeper's axe +10, and when se begins summoning Velsdtadt, start crushing Velstadt. He has low enough health to make my around 185ish I think character be able to kill him before any need for dodging. Bernhardt is also useful, and remember the shortcut bonfire.

I used a+10 broadsword infused with magic & cmw... only summon one NPC. Fight is over after two summons. (I'm a melee/caster)

It's normal. I've had her summon Velstadt three times on me in one fight. Good times!

Best strat I've found for this boss is to ignore velstad and kill off two skeletons. I actually prefer she summon velstad as he's more predictable and easier to dodge. skellies tutle too damn much, making them a somewhat hard kill. high dark defense is a must as her hardest nuke is the three orbs. she still kills me 3-4 times, maybe, as I re-remember her exact patterns and until rng is on my side, but she ain't tough.

And I forgot: play unlocked, keep enemies in view, and low equip load helps a ton (I'm talking 30-40% burden) in making your dodges meaningful and your run speed significant. denial helps too, but only if you've learned enough. shields you won't be using so grab a stamina regen shield, chloranthy ring and two hand your weapon.

She’s not even bad. Stop crying and just fix your build and practise more. Literally git gud

Definitely feels RNG heavy. I've had her down to almost no HP while running away from her Velstadt summon, then she summons an additional 5 skeletons while teleporting around trying to hit me from behind. Super frustrating to try and manage. No time to do anything but kiting and healing. Seems designed as a co-op boss you only get lame melee summons for it you're trying solo.

In a lore perspective nashandra is her sister. So of coarse they are going to look similar.

I tried both ways and only got Velsdalt.

I get harmless pigs. So yeah random. Also don't ask how it went.
