Beginner here: so when should I go through this? I assume that most people did it after they beat the base game. But I´m wondering if it pays to do it earlier, since you can right after reaching the Cathedral

The game recommends doing it after you go through Lothric Castle. By then, you should be leveled enough to handle it.

Because you're a beginner I'd recommend doing it after you complete the base game because if you go through this dlc underlevelled it will be so hard

Unless you're really good you're going to get one shot a lot at lower SLs. For a beginner I'd say beat the base game and be around lvl 100-110 at least. There are long walks between bonfires, big mobs of fast enemies, and the boss fight is one of the most notoriously difficult bosses in the game. At least be able to do Archdragon Peak and Nameless solo. Just my advice.

OP again, thanks for the advice. I waited until after I killed the Dancer, then went in to get the Crow´s Quills and Onyx Blade. It was a rough ride, but manageable

I mean, it's on you to choose, but around level 60 to 80 is good for that DLC. To be honest, level 100-110 is too high, on my first playthrough i came here around level 60 and had an ok time dealing with it

Yo why the hostility? Theres no reason to point that out whatsoever, it's not even that serious. Not to mention your blatant use of the N word to describe the way someone speaks.

#16131586
Try looking for the DLC's and downloading them manually. They should be free if you bought the season pass

#16131820
If you have already downloaded them and they still haven’t showed up, hard reset your Xbox. Clear cache in your network settings.

You can go to the DLC. you just go to the cathedral and you touch a piece of the painting that is just sitting there instead of talking to Gael.

Different opinions are often met with hurt feelings rather than sincere understanding of why there's criticism. So with 110% seriousness and sincerity; It's pretty, the combat and terran mix things up, it IS interesting. However it's not worth 15$, 10 max. It's short with only 2 Bosses. It was designed so that your time is spent exploring a few multi-level enviorments and looking for loot. Not time spent on actual content. 2nd) It's INTENTIONALLY designed so that several key items, weapons and access to casteble Frost Aux are placed here. Meaning it's an intentional attempt to remove stuff that should be in the regular game to goad you into buying it. This is barely above microtransaction in my eyes. If you like a game that's great but to understand how it's made means you understand better what you think is good and bad. By the way, DLC was bought for me as a gift. Otherwise I'd refused to let them or buy it all.

Alright you started off with the price and the length and I agreed, but then you just went off the deep end and finished by saying you wouldn't even wipe your own *** with it, so you completely lost me.

I agree with you up until your 2nd key point. I'm at Friede right now and while I enjoyed the challenging enemies up to this point I have to say I'm disappointed with the total length of the DLC. As you say, I spent the majority of my time looking for loot instead of progressing through the game, and even then it didn't take me that long to get to the boss.

Dude you are such a loser... If you had the comprehension to understand the time and effort and stress put into making even ONE area in this game, you'd probably blow your brains out... barely above microtransactions... GTFO of here... i bought AOA over a two years ago and still havent got through everything... The ringed city is massive also... These 2 expansions, extend the game to levels that make it one of the largest games out there, Period... ive yet to find a game with so much content... And to say theres no content... Wtf is dark souls to you? what other content can you spend time on in this type of game?? the cutscenes are always short and story is always limited and subjective, thats the point... The entire game IS exploring and looking for new items and trying to defeat different enemies along the way... Thats *****ing dark souls in a nut shell, Wtf did you expect it to be? GTA6?? the game is geared around combat experience and learning, exploration, and maintaining equipment and weapons while looking for better equipment and weapons.... Its like you missed thje entire point of the game to begin with and your asking for it to do something different than what it is...

Hmm. You say putting desirable items like Frost Aux in a DLC is an exploitative thing to do, but ok, say the DLC had nothing but cosmetics or other less desirable things in it -- you'd say it doesn't have enough value added to justify buying it. So which one is it?

#16274443
This guy appears EVERYWHERE trashing this dlc. Ok, we get it, you hate this DLC. But why do you need to be so obssessed about hating it? Compare it to basically any other dlc ever made and it is better. I bet you are the type of person who thinks devil may cry's combat is a advanced version of dark souls's combat. Get the **** outta here loser

You do not need to start a new playthrough after installing the DLC(s).

In fact, they can be accessed even if downloaded after beating the final boss.

To check if you can play it, go to the title screen (the menu before loading your character) and look in the top left to check if you have both. If you don't directly after purchase, then wait a bit until your game updates itself.

You can get to Ashes of Ariandel through the Cleansing Chapel bonfire, in the Cathedral of the Deep at anytime.
