No unkindled is a person who linked the flame but failed
How do you link the flame and fail?
Yes, an Unkindled One is one who was strong enough to make it to the First Flame, but failed in surviving the burst of Fire, which turned them to Ash.
"Unkindled ones can use embers for a power up thingy, ..."
Darks souls lore ftw
unkindled ones were old undead sent at the fire to kindle it but failed and burned for it.
No that game theory has a lot of miss information the unkindled are people who are born from the ash of cinder

Some questions here
1) If the unkindled one failed to link the fire, why the hell do they have 2nd chance ? I mean why dont the fire just awake the 6th Lord of Cinder or the 7th or even more ?
2) What is considered as "fail" ? Is it because they were killed while getting to the 1st flame or is it because they died in the burst of fire while linking the flame ?
3) If they died in the burst of fire, how can this time they survive ?
4) If the the chosen Unkindled one, the player character, is a Lord of Cinder, does that mean the Soul of Cinder is missing one soul - which is player's soul ?
1. There might be no lords of cinder besides them, DS1 main protagonist and Gwyn.
2. When they were about to link the flame, the flame burned them instantly instead of being fueled for ages.
3. You are getting stronger through the game. You have claimed all the souls of lords.
4. What?

It's said that the Unkindled did link the fire (and so were strong enough to get there), but they burned instantly and were not enough to keep the Fire from fading. They were simply not good enough "firewood". And this hasn't changed (you see this because in the Link the Fire ending, you just kind of smolder a bit, whereas in other games the whole room exploded into a fiery mess).

The special thing about an Unkindled (which is not the case with a mere Undead) is that they can take the Flames / Embers of others into themselves. They basically store the embers / power of other people in their own body / soul. It's why you kill the Lords of Cinder, to take their own flames into yourself. It's also why you can possibly usurp the First Flame, by taking it into your own body.
It's precisely because you have already burned out (and so have enough "room" for all these other embers and even the First Flame) that you are sent on this journey.

It may very well be that there either a) is no other possible Lord of Cinder that could be awoken instead, or b) because Lothric hasn't linked the Fire, the fact that there is one possible Lord of Cinder that hasn't sacrificed himself, is keeping another potential from existing. There quite simply can be only one potential Lord of Cinder that *hasn't* yet burned.

As for the last question: the Unkindled one is NOT a Lord of Cinder, and so does not have the credentials to be part of the Soul. We know/suspect that Gwyn, an amalgamation of our old player characters, and possibly Solaire are part of the Soul of Cinder. We never see any of them in this game. It is unclear whether all Lords are in the Soul of Cinder, or perhaps only the ones that have not been resurrected (or does the Soul show signs of Aldrich, Yhorm or Ludleth? Not really). We don't even know if the Soul of Cinder is absolutely all Lords who ever linked the Fire, or simply the ones that fight best. What we do know is that our Unkindled player character was never a part of it.
This game sucks ****
24 people don’t get the reference

Stfu you just suck D, not the game.

"Unkindled [...] are shown capable of death, arising from a coffin at the beginning of the game." It's very easy to just read.
Since DKS1, I've always presumed that the Undead 'die' when they *completely* lose their sense of self and are then killed. At that point they no longer have any resemblance to the person they once were, just becoming an anonymous Hollow, perhaps shambling around, perhaps lying still and motionless like a corpse. I assume this applies to Unkindled Ash the same as regular Undead. All Undead -- including Unkindled Ash -- lose their sense of self after they've lost or finished their reason to continue struggling. e.g. For Anri it was after Aldrich was killed, for Siegward it was after he kept his promise to Yhorm, and with Horace it was implied he was already a half-mad Hollow at the Halfway Fortress bonfire before he went completely insane in Smoldering Lake. So basically, Unkindled are still Undead, and have the same vulnerability to insanity and losing their sense of self as regular Undead.
ANON POSTING IS FUN.
