RIGHT when you enter the shrine from the main entrance there are two staircases going up to a third story in the building. If you're entering shrine from outside it's the right staircase. If you're leaving the shrine is the left staircase.

I also can not find the tower.. it's not where you think it is which is after you kill master Uchigatana ..

That door is actually one of the exits after you open the tower. Before going on the lift there is a bridge where you can walk off either side. Look for the side where the coffins stick out further. Just jump down on the series of coffins until you reach the bottom. Then there is the door that is behind master Uchigatana. As for where the tower is. It's on the left when exiting Firelink Shrinke. Hug the wall and you'll find it. I also thought it was gonna be the Uchigatana guy's door, but nope. Speaking of, anyone knows how to open this one?

The entrance is actually accessed from inside Firelink Shrine. Go up the stairs and you will see a way outside. Note that if you warp to Firelink bonfire, the exit back outside may be fogged up. You'll need to enter through the boss bonfire.

the tower is in the upper part of the firelink shrine. u need to go up some stairs
