waste of game data and a source point considering other magic non source skills can do more than it

A perfect skill for a physical class. Anytime there is an attribute-independent skill that deals the opposite damage to your primary (necromancy for mages, polymorph/medusa, skin flay for warriors) you should grab it, so that you can attack enemy weakness even if it's not your spec. Attack magic armor/gain magic armor compensates for two weaknesses of a physical class at the same time.

How does this scale? At the surface it seems absolutely terrible to me, so i'm wondering how the numbers are
