I imagine a lot of our users are going around wondering why all the websites they visit are sending them privacy policy updates and re-subscription notifications. This is because a new European privacy law called GPDR is coming into effect in May 25th 2018, and a lot of websites have had to adjust their policies to be compliant.

Fextralife has always respected our users' privacy rights, as required by the GDPR, but this is a good time to remind everyone:

1. When you sign up for the site, you actively sign up for our newsletter. If you want to get off the newsletter there's a setting in your User Panel that allows you tick off "Administrators can email be information". Alternatively, if you receive our newsletter, the footer has and has always had an "unsubscribe" button.
You cannot unsubscribe from operational site emails, however, or your account will not be recoverable for password resets, etc. See account deactivation for more

2. When you sign up for the site, you agree to our TOU, Privacy Policy & Wiki License. If you want to withdraw your agreement, you can always request account anonymization and deactivation. Click the GDPR & Deactivation button on the user menu on the top right of the site and send us an email.

3. If you want to know what information we hold on you, it's pretty simple: Your username, Your email, Your IP, and any information you entered on your user panel (completely optional). You can manually delete your user panel information. Your Username can be changed upon request. Your email and IP can be excluded from communications but are integral to site functionality so are archived by us, our host, and Cloudflare. We handle this information as per our Privacy Policy. You can request more details by clicking the GDPR & Deactivation button on the user menu on the top right of the site and send us an email.

4. When you use the site you need cookies for several purposes including the site's log-in and VIP features, announcements, private messages, reputation, etc. You also get cookies and tracking pixels from advertisers that want to track if you clicked on their ad, and from Google analytics so we can keep up with how the site is used and improve your browsing experience accordingly. You can manage cookies in your browser settings, and you can expect annoying "accept cookies" popups littering your online experience in every website you visit starting next week because big agencies that handle advertising code are including them in all their ads.

5. You must accept our Terms of Use to browse our website.

6. Editing and commenting on the wikis, even anonymously, requires explicit acceptance of our policies.

7. "All of this is a PITA, Fex, I just wanna browse the wiki!" I know, and there's little I can do! Blame tech giants for stealing your real personal info :p. You can always save yourself a world of "accept cookies" and such disclaimers by becoming a VIP because you'll then get no ads.

And that's about it. All the links provided are easy to access from all our pages so you can refer to them whenever you need. As always, thank you all for kindling this bonfire, and may your gaming journey not be over-recorded by big social media!
