I'm going to quote myself and argue against.
While I think my premise is correct that this is how it is supposed to be I think that halving damage for invaders would produce a whole set of new problems to be addressed and that it would make for a less exciting experience if done incorrectly. It is too big of a change to be good and it would make invasions almost impossible with the current ruleset of allowing three phantoms and blues.
I now believe in my standard goto when it comes to game difficulty and that is applying the 'git gud' principle and uhh, git gud.
