It seems like a common theme in the Archives is that Priscilla lead some sort of uprising against the gods in Anor Londo, but the effigy shield is found in the Tomb of Giants, which is nowhere close to Anor Londo or the Painted World of Ariamis.

Perhaps the cultists attempted a coup and then were trapped in the Painted World because it was the safest place nearby. Maybe Priscilla had nothing to do with it, she seems awfully apathetic to the player when you meet her.

I'm not sure if this is particularly pertinent to the thread, but if I'm right that would suggest that the coup was fairly successful. Perhaps the cultists are the reason the gods left Anor Londo in the first place.

I don't know, ideas!

Actually the shield is meant to resemble a Xenomorph from the Alien movie franchise. It was a fan designed shield that was part of a contest before the game's release. Pretty sure it was made by Mat Gunn.

The Shield is very interesting. I haven't been able to test its legitimacy though. My plan is to use it against Nito himself.

I always assumed Priscilla went to the Painted World long after, the Heretical Occultists items went in there. I thought it was referred to as a Vault.

As for who the Occultists were who better to reign over them and ensure they do not spread their heresy in death but NIto. Obviously he failed at it given that Vamos still had knowledge but the Gods must have been sure no one could collect the ember and bring it to Vamos.

My Guess is Gwyn assumed his linking the fire would work and he would not become Cinder and be able to defend against any future uprisings if need be.

As for the face on the Effigy shield I see fangs but I also see a big beard and large helmet. Maybe this was Vamos in life. Either way we see Vamos near enough to Nito and resigned to his fate until you pester him.

I am going to bring up DS2 and DS3 Lore,

Given that The Giants were another race entirely in DS2 and had their own cycle, maybe these occultists had a cycle of their own, maybe the Necromancers we see in the catacombs are remnants of this cult. They literally are able to defy Nito in raising the dead.

Also we see Priscilla become a symbol of the Forlorn as seen in DS3.

Just a few random thoughts.
