Grinding Gear Games has just announced a ton of exciting information on their official Twitter Page and website. During today’s expansion live stream, Lake of Kalandra, they confirmed the return of the highly popular convention for all things Path of Exile, ExileCon.

The Return of ExileCon 2023

The most prominent announcement was the confirmation that the annual convention held by GGG, ExileCon will continue next year. The pandemic has definitely put a wrench in a lot of plans, the annual convention included. Next year, from July 29 to 30, 2023, fans of Path of Exile will be able to flock to Auckland, New Zealand.

Playable Exiles

The highlight of the convention will definitely be more information on Path of Exile 2. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been too much information on the sequel since it was unveiled in 2019. Attendees on the convention floor will actually be able to play the game in its (then) current iteration. More information will also be unveiled during the convention. Most exciting would be the Beta Dates, when even more people will be able to try out the game.

Path of Exile 2’s game systems will also be discussed at length in ExileCon 2023. Topics such as character classes and items are just the tip of the iceberg for things to come.

Mobile Exiles

Oh, and Path of Exile Mobile will also be present during ExileCon 2023. Just like its bigger brother, the mobile port will also be playable by anyone who attends the convention. Aside from that, fans will get the opportunity to meet the developers behind the games and interact with one another.

Tickets to the event will be on sale starting two weeks from the announcement. Presumably, this means that ExileCon 2023 tickets will be on sale on August 26, 2022. Fans will have to wait for almost a year though to be able to actually set foot in the event. That’s alright, as it will give them some time to explore the beautiful locales of New Zealand.

Path of Exile: Lake of Kalandra Expansion

The main topic of the developer’s live stream was the Lake of Kalandra expansion which releases next week, on August 19th. Kalandra will be the central focus of this expansion. Die-hard fans may be familiar with her already, as one of the most valuable items in the game is named after her, the Mirror of Kalandra. This Mirror allows players to essentially duplicate almost any item (except Uniques and other corrupted objects).

Players of Path of Exile will visit the titular Lake of Kalandra, the source of her duplication powers. Like Kalandra herself, the lake takes the form of reflections from other parts of Wraeclast. Segments of land spring up from the watery depths as players walk through, never letting them know what to expect next.

To help players have a bit more control over the randomness of the Lake of Kalandra is a new item called the Mirrored Tablet. Starting out as a blank slate, players can imbue Reflections onto the tablet that will pertain to specific encounters and challenges. Once the tablet is full, players can then use it to visit the Lake and explore their creation first-hand.

Reflective Rewards

Path of Exile’s Lake of Kalandra will have some unique ways of rewarding players who can brave the challenges that await. One new system is the Jewelry Reflections. The Lake will randomly gift the player a choice of two pieces of jewelry that are exact mirrors of each other.

One item will have half of its positive effects magnified twofold, but then have some effects be detrimental to the player. The reflection, on the other hand, will have the first item’s negative effects instead be positive, and vice versa. The player can only choose one. It will be interesting to see how viable these trinkets may be in the long run, considering the high likelihood of receiving large negative effects.

Players will also have access to 4 new gems as well as 14 new unique game-changing items. That’s not all, as over 100 existing unique items have also been rebalanced, making more of them viable this time around.

Alchemist's Mark

One new gem example is Alchemist’s Mark. This green gem applies a curse on an enemy. Whenever the player hits this foe, they gain increased Flask Charges. The ground also burns under this enemy if you Ignite them. Poisonous earth can also be applied if the player Poisons them instead.

Coming Back to Wraeclest

Path of Exile looks to be in quite a good place at the moment. With the Lake of Kalandra expansion coming next week and ExileCon 2023 in a year’s time, fans definitely have a lot to look forward to. Now’s a good time as any to get back into Grinding Gear Games’ ARPG.

Trickster Class Rework

These are just some of the changes being introduced into Path of Exile’s Lake of Kalandra expansion. Some other things also include a rework of the Trickster Ascendancy Class.
