Final Fantasy XV Previews Upcoming Updates

In a post on the Square Enix blog, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata previewed some of the free updates coming to the game over the next few months.

First, they are planning to add gameplay enhancements for the quests in Chapter 13, and to buff ring magic, as well as more tweaks. More specifics on what they will exactly change are on the way.

Next, they’re planning to make some additions to the story, adding scenes that will give you new insight into character motivations, such as why Ravus walked the path he did. These will take more time due to localization and other language voice acting.

In the long term, they are looking at making certain key characters playable, as well as considering the possibility of customizable avatars.

Some other features they are considering adding:

  • Letting you carry over stats from a previous playthrough
  • Adding items that introduce new playstyles, such as low-level runs and god mode
  • Readability tweaks such as increasing font size for certain languages
  • New bosses with exclusive rewards and achievements
  • Limited-time hunts

In addition to these free updates there is also their planned DLC which will bring new items, weapons, and story elements as well as the Comrades expansion which will being 4 person multiplayer to the game.

With all that on the way, it’s clear that players’ time with the game is nowhere near being done, even if you are nearing the end of your first playthrough! Thoughts on what’s coming? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Noone likes fancy grahpics and poor designed gameplay. i think the development lead failed here very hard. i got my phd of informations systems and i have no idea how to lead a group of developers through this but what i can tell is. I need 1 year to learn how to lead a team (prolly less), and i will make at least double the quality of FFXV that is now. sorry for this comment. but this comes from my heart.

  2. ”Three Easy Steps to Failure” according to Naoki Yoshida

    1) An unhealthy obsession with graphical fidelity.
    2) A surprising lack of MMORPG knowledge amongst the development team.
    3) The mindset that the solution to every problem could be patched in a future update.

Square have learned absolutely nothing. Tabata is an absolute hack of the highest order.

Beyond parody, outside the XIV team they have absolutely no clue on the development side of things – no evil executives – the dev teams are utterly talent deprived, incompetent and most importantly, poorly led.
