Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae set to release March 17th

The upcoming playable demo for Final Fantasy XV, Episode Duscae, will be available to download for a limited time at the launch of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, director Hajime Tabata has confirmed. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD releases on March 17th for North America, 19th for Japan and 20th for Europe. Download codes for Episode Duscae are only available with all pre-ordered copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. (Both physical and digital purchases apply in addition to standard and collectors editions.)

Episode Duscae will contain between 2-4 hours of content depending upon certain factors (playstyle/exploration etc.) and will have certain mechanics available and some not available that will be present in the full release.

  • The demo will take place in a small section of Final Fantasy XV’s world, Duscae, and in context will be open-world and contain seamless transitions.
  • There will be several towns available for the player to explore.
  • Several dungeons will be available for the player to explore.
  • Full day/night cycle in addition to the ‘camping feature’ will also be available
  • In terms of combat, the Phantom Sword mechanic in addition to a prototype summoning system with several Eidolons will be available.
  • Characters such as Noctis, Ignis, Prompto, Gladiolus and Cidney will be present in Episode Duscae.

  • The magic system will not be available in Episode Duscae.
  • ‘Mounts’ such as Chocobo’s and Cars will not be available.

The demo, like the full game, will also include various audio and subtitle options in all versions of Episode Duscae. (Yes Japanese VA with English subtitles is available in Episode Duscae.)

Square Enix will be compiling feedback from the demo and using it in development. In addition to this, Tabata has made this demo available in order reassure players that development is going well and on schedule. Final Fantasy XV has no release date still, however a early 2016 release is looking likely judging by the progress made since Hajime Tabata became head of the project.

  1. No worries, Fex. I will also write an impressions article after it drops. There are some features I really want to test out in detail when it does arrive.

Also waiting on news on Final Fantasy Agito+, Final Fantasy Explorers and there are rumours of a Crisis Core Remaster so hopefully Square Enix will be forthcoming on those in the near future.

Type-0 looks like it’ll be fun though. Plenty of guide material there for me to look into.

  2. This sounds really interesting! Thank you for helping me keep up with FF – I should try this out.
