Fextralife’s Upcoming Games For 2016

2016 is moving along rapidly and as usual there are tons of games on the horizon for gamers and RPG enthusiasts. Here at Fextralife we have our eyes on several notable games that we feel are going to be massive time sinks (in the best possible way). Let’s take a brief look at some of the games we’ll be giving our attention to this year in order of their expected release.

Midtown Manhattan has entered a virus apocalypse and only the agents of The Division can restore it to order. We just finished playing the closed beta and had a blast!

Dark Souls 3

Wiki: Dark Souls 3 Wiki

What it’s about: The third entry in the Dark Souls series and the 5th game in From Software’s action rpg niche, Dark Souls 3 represents a return to the directing helm of Hidetaka Miyazaki. There is not much more to be said about this game that is possibly the most anticipated game of the year for hardcore enthusiasts. Prepared? We are.

Uncharted 4

uncharted 4 multiplayer beta 2

What it’s about: We are so excited to finally get our hands on this 2D action RPG inspired by the Souls series. Hand drawn and deep, the game promises to redefine the 2D perspective and will give many players a reason to dust off their Vitas. We’ve got you covered with the Official Wiki and Forums for the game!

Battleborn

Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC

Wiki: Battleborn Wiki

What it’s about: MOBA? Shooter? RPG? Who cares. This game is all about chaotic mutliplayer goodness with players jumping into some very engaging coop and competitive modes. What it’s about: Turn based combat, with great dialogue, lush worlds to explore, tight mechanics and amazing attention to detail. Final Fantasy XV

Wiki: Final Fantasy XV Wiki

What it’s about: One of the most storied franchises in gaming history is getting a landmark 15th entry and it has been a long time coming. Expansive and magical it looks to retain some of the hallmark wonder the series is known for while taking it in some very new directions with the battle system and overall tone. Will it deliver on the hopes and expectations of fans?

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon 2

Release Date: TBD

Platform(s): PS4

Wiki: Horizon Zero Dawn Wiki

What it’s about: Beautiful setting in a post-post-apocalyptic world, Horizon Zero Dawn presents a humanity that has gone native again after suffering cataclysmic destruction. The land is roamed by giant robotic beasts resembling dinosaurs at times, and the mystery of the world must be unraveled over time. Killzone developer Guerrilla is behind the game and this marks their first foray into the world of open world RPGs. We have some high hopes for this one.

Nioh

nioh

Release Date: TBD

Platform(s): PS4

Wiki: Nioh Wiki

What it’s about: Samurai Souls? Team Ninja has resurrected this property and early gameplay shows it to be a blend of Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls. It plays off the Ronin theme, with very dark themes as well as unique online components. Sleek, fast and visceral as we’ve come to expect from Team Ninja.

Eitr

Eitr

Release Date: TBD

Platform(s): PS4, PC

Wiki: Eitr Wiki

What it’s about: Heavily Souls inspired action RPG built around exceptional combat and formidable challenges set within a mythological Norse world. Isometric like Diablo, deep combat like Souls and an approach to leveling that is totally unique. This has been on our radar for a while and we can’t wait to get our hands on it!

This is by no means an exhaustive list as we are always on the hunt for new exciting games to play and make wikis for, but it’s a pretty robust list already! Time to start planning your schedules and savings, because it’s going to be a gaming year and this isn’t even including DLC! Which of these are you excited for? Share your thoughts in the comments and be sure to bookmark all of these wikis for future use!

  1. Will buy:
    Dark Souls 3
    For Honor

    Interested:
    For Honor
    Nioh
    Salt & Sanctuary
ReCore (from the metroid prime makers)
LoZ Wii U (if it comes out this year)

Also, this Eitr game looks interesting, never heard about that one before.

  2. If I was going to make a top ten list (in no particular order except for DaS3 which is a must have) it would be:

    Dark Souls 3
    Nioh
    For Honor
    The Last Guardian
    Kingdom Come Deliverance
    Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade
    Hellblade
    WiLD
    Salt and Sanctuary
    Eitr
    Horizon Zero Dawn

All of the above have been announced as 2016 releases. Dark Souls 3 is the only one I have seen a firm release date for despite it already being February. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the list doesn’t get pushed back until 2017.

I’ve preordered Dark Souls 3, but the rest I will wait to see if I’m going to buy. Once I have seen post-release reviews, decided which games I want the most, and seen how much money I can squeeze out of my wallet, I’ll see how much of this list I’ll actually own and play.

  3. I didn’t see any of the Xbox One exclusives, so here’s a short list:

    Gears 4
    Quantum Break
    Crackdown 3
    Fable Legends
    ReCore

And this odd little indie called “Below”, which often gets described as an isometric Demon’s Souls:

  4. I hope Larian bring Divinity: OS 2 to consoles. I played the first one this winter, & it’s become my all time favorite RPG. Got my fingers crossed! At least there are plenty of games to keep me occupied in the meantime as evidenced by your list!! :)

  5. Looking forward to pretty much every game on this list. Didn’t know Horizon was scheduled for 2016.

  6. Man, there’s some promising titles in that bunch. Salt and Sanctuary is on my “must have” list.
