Well, it looks like there are still plenty of amazing RPG titles, which gets us raring to go for the new year. What follows is a list of our Top 10 RPG Games of 2019, it is definitely an action-packed year, with so many takes on the genre but each bringing their own punch with a kaleidoscope of universes.

Honorable Mention – Ghost of Tsushima

The open-world samurai action adventure focuses on the Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274. The story follows the feuding sides as warfare, chaos and violent change ensues. Players will follow the protagonist Jin Sakai, a warrior skilled in the art of the samurai in a tale of “revenge, empowerment, and hope”. The game is enriched with Japanese history, traditions and pays homage to samurai cinema.

If you’re looking for a title that combines historical aspects with enriched storyline and visuals that are simply jaw-dropping, Ghost of Tsushima could very well be the samurai adventure for you.

10. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered

Originally released backed in 2004 on the Nintendo GameCube, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, the co-op action RPG, is getting a remastered version. One of the most challenging of classic Final Fantasy games takes on the new platforms of Playstation 4 and Nintendo’s latest device the Switch. Players have to battle enemies and solve puzzles so that they can successfully gather Myrrh, an energy source that powers the crystals needed to protect the world from Miasma.

The original version of multiplayer required each player to pay careful attention to information they had, as each player had access to different bits of info, making communication with other players crucial. How this will pan out in the remastered version is too soon to tell, however.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered will be released on Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2019.

9.Warhammer Chaosbane

Set in the dark universe of Warhammer, Warhammer: Chaosbane takes on the action-RPG genre with some Diablo-esque gameplay. While Warhammer games aren’t rare, Eko Software say they are the first to have an action-RPG set in the Games Workshop’s fantasy universe.

Players will get a choice of human, elf, wood elf or dwarf and will be able to adventure in several well known places in the Warhammer universe. The game also introduces a High Elf wizard, a character that can strike from afar with lightning attacks. Destinations include the cursed city of Praag, and Nuln, known as the Empire’s old capital. There is also the choice of drop-in co-op which is a welcomed feature.

Warhammer: Chaosbane is set to release on PC via Steam in 2019.

8. Bless Unleashed

Developer: Round 8 Studio
Publisher: Bandai Namco

Bless Unleashed is an open-world game where players can fight it out in PvP battles or take on mythical beasts together. The game is created using Unreal Engine 4 and set to bring detailed landscapes and characters. The game is being developed by Round 8 Studio of Neowiz, the same studio in South Korea who made Bless Online which launched on Steam early access in May this year.

Bless Unleashed will be bringing five character classes for players to choose from and will be combo-driven. Bandai Namco have said they have focused on skill progression. Players will face mythical beasts which includes flying dragons.

Bless Unleashed it set to launch in 2019 on Xbox One.

7. The Surge 2

Publisher: Focus Home Interactive

The sci-fi souls-like action-RPG makes its return in the sequel: The Surge 2. Set in a world that is coming to end, little is living but what does exist are strange anomalies that are now affecting the planet’s surface. In the city of Jericho, players explore the dying lands and try to survive the perils.

Players will encounter 10 different weapons types which is double the amount of weapons that The Surge had. You will also be able to collect and farm new armor, and those who hoped to see some content from the original game will find some armor pieces from the previous title as well. The Surge 2 has also got a full character creation feature now letting players choose their gender, face and more.

The Surge 2 is set release in Q2 2019 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

6. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

The highly successful Monster Hunter World gets its first major expansion called Iceborne in 2019, and as its name suggests it will be set in a frost environment. The DLC aims to bring new quest ranks, new monsters, new locales, new moves and new equipment. Not much else has been shared except that the developers have hinted they’ll be bringing new monster ranks to the game, mostly likely this will be G Rank as requested by Monster Hunter fans.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will released in Autumn of 2019, coming to consoles first. Capcom have not confirmed when PC players will be getting the expansion.

5. Code Vein

Code Vein the JRPG souls-like was originally suppose to the release towards the end of 2018 but it was delayed and will release now in 2019. The action-RPG features a dark dystopian future where a mysterious disaster has brought the end of the world. It is up to the last few that survive to now fight against a society of Revenants that threaten to destroy any humanity that is left.

Although a soul-sian game in spirit, Code Vein brings something new to the table, the option to team up with companions that can help assist players on their journey. Each companion has their own unique weapons and abilities stemming from their afflicted blood veil. For example the fierce Mia Karnstein has a tail-like Stinger that she uses to inflict damage upon her enemies.

Code Vein is set to release in Q2 2019 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

4. Kingdom Hearts III

Set to be the most star studded entry for the action-RPG Kingdom Hearts franchise, the latest entry returns with talented artists such as Kristen Bell and Josh Gad. Kingdom Hearts III brings the characters from Hercules, Frozen, Big Hero 6 and more in a Disney crossover that sets out to trump them all.

Focusing on the power of friendship, the story follows main character Sora as he embarks on an adventure with his trusty band of friends. Players will be able to cast powerful magical spells and use new abilities from Keyblades as they battle the Heartless. Team up with Disney Pixar friends for support, summoning all-new “attractions” which takes its inspiration from theme parks. As you battle your way through the world scale cliffs, dive underwater and even experience freefalling through the air. The title also includes 20 minigames which is inspired by classic Disney short films.

Kingdom Hearts III will release on January 29th 2019 on Playstation 4 and Xbox One

3. The Outer Worlds

Publisher: Private Division

Obsidian best known for Fallout: New Vegas, will be releasing a new sci-fi inspired RPG called The Outer Worlds. This semi-open-world title will take players into space where humanity has used special cryogenic chambers to travel far into the universe. Humans now colonising new worlds with help of mega-coporations, players will set off for new opportunities far away from what they once knew. This title brings a very Fallout experience but brings its own taste of space adventure.

Played entirely in first-person, interact with full voiced NPCs and experience a player-driven storyline that will not only impact quests and missions, but also the outcome of Reputation, Factions and even the ending to your own tale. Team up with companions that will help you in your space adventure, using their perks, skills and special abilities.

The Outer Worlds is set to release on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2019.

2. Sekiro

Release Date: March 22nd 2019
Platform: Playstation 4, PC, Xbox One
Developer: FromSoftware
Publisher: Activision

FromSoftware is back but this time with a new IP entirely, not following the usual Souls recipe but delving into the world of action-adventure. Players will live the life of a ninja that has a special trick up their sleeve…well arm in this case as they adorn a prosthetic grappling hook for an arm. This appendage gives the ability to reach new heights, being able to grapple buildings and structures alike.

Playing as the “one-armed wolf” or Sekiro, you will wield a sword which can attack but also defend by the use of block or parry. Players must be wary of their “posture” which will deplete over time when using these defensive actions. From takes inspiration from historic Japan but weaves its own fantasy and myth with Sekiro. Expect stunning views, an in depth lore, stealth and plenty of sword fighting action.

Sekiro is set release on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on March 22nd 2019.

1. Cyberpunk 2077

The developers of The Witcher 3 take on a new IP in the futuristic world of Cyberpunk 2077. An action-RPG that brings everything you could want from a rebellious universe that’s been lost to crime, sex and violence. This vibrant allows for players to explore and interact with the world around them, and even the NPCs will react to how your character is dressed and their actions.

This sci-fi world of sin will take you on a journey to complete quests that might not be completely legit, visit brothels, the implant doctor for an upgrade, traders, nightclubs and more, it seems there is no limit to how you wish to live in this land populated by degenerates. By kitting out your character with the latest implants you can gain new abilities, hack into other beings to gain the info you need and rise through the ranks of your faction to gain that Street Cred.

While there has not been an official announcement for the release window, it is believed Cyberpunk 2077 will be arriving in 2019 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

    1- Cyberpunk 2077 (yes, I want to believe it will come 2019 too XD)
    2- Sekiro (Finished DS trilogy and I finally got a PS4 and I’m having a blast with Bloodborne
    3- The Outer Worlds (I am a huge fan of New Vegas)
    4- The Surge 2 (The first one is the only DS clon I truly like)
    5- MHW Iceborne
    6- Code Vein (When they decided to delay the game because of the unexpected hype, I thought to myself: “Ok, this MIGHT be good)
    And…
    I don’t care about the rest LOL
