Bethesda fielded some questions at this year’s QuakeCon with Fallout 76 Game Director Todd Howard and Development Direction Chris Meyer as well as Project Leader Jeff Gardiner.
Fallout 76 Reveals More Details About PvP, Death Penalty, Private Servers and More
During a panel at QuakeCon 2018 which took place recently from August 9th to 12th in Texas, Bethesda reveal more about the features of the upcoming online multiplayer survival RPG Fallout 76.
The following topics were highlighted:
- PvP is invitational – When you hit someone for the first time it has reduced damage, rather than a full blown assault it’s like an invitation to commence in PvP. If the player decides to engage then full damage ensues. Rewards will be scale based on level, if you defeat someone who is at a much higher level than you, then you receive a greater reward. Seeking revenge after you’re killed, will give a doubled reward bonus.
- Bounty – Players who are attacked and don’t engage (run away for example) the attacking player can kill them but will receive no reward but instead become a wanted murderer. Other players will be able to see this wanted murderer on their map with the bounty. The bounty will come from the wanted player’s own caps (currency).
- PvP doesn’t come into affect until level 5.
- You can flag yourself a “pacifist” to not deal any damage to others.
- Death Penalty – When you die you drop your junk, this isn’t all your equipment but things that can be used to make and upgrade items. You can however go back and recover the items if no one else grabs them. You can also keep items safe by storing them in your stash, these are safe from other players. There are stashes out in the world that you can use.
- Respawn – There is no cost for respawning after death as long as you respawn to the closest point or at the entrance of Vault 76. Respawning anywhere else will cost you caps.
- Block – You also have the ability to block players so that they won’t be able to locate you on the map.
- Power Curve – PvE and PvP power curve are different, PvE is normalised while PvP is smaller for both weapons and armor. This gives lower level players a fighting chance against those of a higher level.
- Nuking Camps – While it’s possible to nuke camp sites and take out structures on it, the owner can still rebuild and relocate using blue prints. Camps are easy to repair.
- Voice Chat – Proximity voice chat is available for strangers so you can communicate with those who are close to you.
- V.A.T.S (Vault-Tec Assisting Targeting System) is in real time but targeting body parts is a perk meaning you cannot do this at the beginning without the perk. The hit rate percentage is based on perception, investing in P will help you accuracy and the ability to find your foes.
- Private Servers – Bethesda reveal they will have private servers and are 100% committed to supporting modding and private servers in the game.
- Soundtrack – The music is composed by Inon Zur as well as there will be more licensed music available in-game. Players will be able to listen to radio stations with an “unbelievable mount of bizarre forties music”.
- Bethesda share that the game will be 80% of what people know and love about Fallout and 20% new content.
Fallout 76 will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14th, 2018 while B.E.T.A will launch in October 2018. Pre-orders are already available via Amazon, those who pre-order will have access to the B.E.T.A..
