Enshrouded has released the “Souls of the Frozen Frontier” update, now available to the over three million players who have tried the game since its Early Access launch in January 2024.

This ambitious expansion brings highly requested features like dynamic weather, pets and farm animals, settler NPCs, a new snowy biome, an increased level cap, and crafting improvements.

Enshrouded Fourth Major Update

With “Souls of the Frozen Frontier,” players can now explore the icy mountain range of Albaneve, a challenging biome where they will brave Embervale’s harsh winter.

This area introduces new movement mechanics: deep snow that slows players down, updrafts for prolonged gliding, and slippery ice surfaces that alter mobility, adding strategic risk to each step.

Along with its frozen landscapes, Albaneve offers new monsters, creatures, resources, and “Shroud” zones filled with mysteries to uncover.

Pets & Farm Animals

Responding to a popular player request, the update allows players to adopt pets and farm animals. Non-aggressive creatures can be tamed to offer companionship and a homier atmosphere at bases.

These pets also provide occasional resources as a thank-you for sheltering them, making them a valuable addition for those who enjoy base building and life-simulation aspects.

New Features and NPCs

The Enshrouded world expands with settler NPCs—souls brought back to Embervale by the power of the Flameborn.

These NPCs can be invited to bases to assist with crafting tasks and introduce new outfit options for players. Additionally, dynamic weather is now a reality, bringing extreme cold, rain, and other environmental changes that require players to adapt with specific recipes and gear to withstand the shifting conditions.

New Weapons, Gear, & Increased Level Cap

Players can now reach level 35, unlocking additional skills and spells to further customize each class. Crafting has also evolved with new materials like snow, which can be used in various biomes without melting, allowing players to decorate their bases with winter themes.

New weapons and gear provide even more options for players to tackle the hostile world in their preferred style.

Future Plans

With this fourth major update, Keen Games continues to follow its 2024 roadmap for Enshrouded, utilizing the Feature Upvote platform, which lets the community vote on and suggest new ideas.

Since its Early Access release, the game has maintained a highly positive rating on Steam, with the community playing a key role in the development of new features that enhance this survival and exploration experience.
