Elin the successor to Elona arrives over 15 years later, offering hundreds of hours of gameplay with a more open and chaotic concept
Elin Early Access
This is an open-world RPG blending roguelike and sandbox elements with survival mechanics, crafting, building, and a hefty dose of management. You wonโt truly grasp the vast possibilities of this new title by the Japanese indie developer Lafrontier until you play it.
This indie game is actually the successor to Elona, released back in 2006. Presented as a sequel, it expands on the original idea with a “more open and chaotic” experience where you can live your own life alongside companions and pets. The game takes place in a constantly expanding world with frequent updates planned beyond the Early Access phase.
One of Elinโs standout features is its management system. Players manage a large inventory filled with elements that can be used to customize environments through an editor. You can build your own shop, design your home, and control details like lighting. Additionally, activities such as fishing, farming, raising livestock, stealing, or even starting a family are available.
The Sense of Adventure Is Another Key Ingredient
Set in the world of Ylva, players begin by recruiting allies and exploring regions filled with procedurally generated dungeons. There are missions to complete, and you can choose how to playโbecoming a hero or a criminal. The focus is on creativity, embodying the spirit of Elona in new ways.
Elin is a spiritual successor with an isometric view, updated graphics, and new features like base management, built on the core foundation of Elona. If the previous game offered hundreds of hours of gameplay for dedicated players and fostered a strong community, this title promises no less.
You can currently play Elin on Steam following its Early Access release on November 1. The game has hardware requirements that make it accessible to most PCs.
