Elden Ring has been taking massive strides in popularity since its release on February 25, 2022. It has broken many concurrent player counts, including that on Steam.

Elden Ring is the 6th Most Played Game on Steam; Almost a Million Concurrent Players

Elden Ring is insanely popular. The team at Bandai Namco and FromSoftware has achieved many accolades, including getting a 9.5/10 in our Elden Ring Review. However, recently the game has even broken many concurrent player counts on Steam.

According to SteamDB, the action RPG attained a peak of 953,426 concurrent players on Steam alone. This is a monumental achievement, considering that previous releases have had player counts nowhere near this number. Dark Souls Remastered peaked at a mere 24,501 players 4 years ago. The third instalment, Dark Souls III reached a peak of 129,975 players. Sekiro was somewhat comparable and attained 125,315 concurrent players.

As of writing, this has placed the title as the 6th game with the highest concurrent player count. In fact earlier this month, Lost Ark was also able to enter Steam’s top 10, and achieved a 1.3 million player count. Also above Elden Ring are CS:GO, Dota 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and PUBG.

Elden Ring – Game of the Year

Elden Ring has proved that it indeed deserves all the praise that it has been getting. In Japan alone, the game has sold over 280,000 units on the PlayStation ecosystem.

If you’re talking about playtime alone, the main quest and rushing through will take about 30 hours. However, if you take your time with it (as most people should), the game can last over 100 hours. This is great value for money if you compare a dollar to an hour of playtime.

Everything About the Ring and the Lands Between

Elden Ring is an action RPG that was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki in collaboration with George R.R. Martin.

The game has an extremely detailed character creator that allows players to fully customize their Tarnished. Players can initially start off with one of many classes, such as the Hero, Astrologer, Prophet, Prisoner, Wretch or Samurai. Eventually, they can diverge and can create their own build to cater to their specific playstyle.

As they start out in Limgrave, they will eventually branch out into other fantastical locations such as Stormveil Castle, the Weeping Peninsula, and Liurnia of the Lakes, among others.

What sets Elden Ring apart from other souls like games is the fact that it is set in an Open World. Also, Magic has been given much more emphasis and is much more comparable in terms of usability versus traditional weapons.

2022: Off to a Great Start

The year has been off to such a great start in terms of video games. We’ve had unexpectedly good releases such as Expeditions: Rome. PlayStation fans also got the exclusive Horizon Forbidden West last month. On the Nintendo side, we have Pokemon Legends: Arceus (which sold over 6.5 million copies) in January and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to look forward to later this year. And of course, in November we’ll be getting the highly anticipated Starfield.
