Larian Studios has released a new developer update for Divinity Original Sin 2. Check out the video below and read on for a recap.
AI 2.0 is included in the new early access patch and is the game’s new system that teaches the NPCs how to better react to you in order to improve the challenge you face when square off against them in combat.
AI 2.0 won’t just blow up barrels: it will manipulate existing surfaces to make combat much more challenging, it will use your statuses against you, it will use spells and abilities in ways that even we never imagined, and- frankly if we’re not careful, it may be well on its way to world domination.
In short, the new AI is designed to be much less predictable and a lot more reactive to the environment and what’s going on, in some surprising ways such as combining abilities in unexpected but powerful ways. An example given was passing up doing a small amount of damage in order to create an oil surface to slow you down and remove your haste status.

The new patch also includes some new PvP arenas, some changes to combat and gameplay and a whole host of general bugs and fixes. You can check out the full early notes patch notes here. As they progress towards the full release of the game, Larian outlined some of the features that early access players will be seeing coming up:
- Skill crafting
- Relationship systems
- Systemic tags
- New Origin stories
- The Undead
- The modding tool
- Game Master mode
Fun stuff. Divinity Original Sin 2 is set to release sometime this year on PC, with consoles possibly seeing a release as well.
