Diablo 4 Beta Biggest in Franchise History, Unleashes Hellish Stats
While the massive Fractured Peaks area from the Diablo IV beta may have been closed off, there have been tons of fond memories formed on the icy tundra. We’ve had massive enjoyment running around the game’s expansive locations, and discovering hidden Altars of Lilith, and other treasures.
The game’s extreme flexibility also gave us the opportunity to play with a lot of fun builds for the different classes. We got to try bleeding our foes dry with a Rend Barbarian or poisoning them with rabies as a Toxic Werewolf. Alternatively, Necromancers got to play with Corpse Explosions yet again.

We may no longer be able to reenter Sanctuary for now, but we only need to wait a bit over two weeks to return. The two beta weekends were some of the franchise’s biggest ever. We achieved a staggering total of just over 61 million hours played collectively by the heroes of Sanctuary. Blizzard shared a few other stats in celebration.
Diablo IV Beta: by the Numbers
Fans of the Diablo series played a total of 61,560,437 hours. They were able to explore the entirety of the game’s Prologue and Act I, which took place in the Fractured Peaks. While the Barbarian and Druid‘s quests were just out of reach (having objectives situated in the Dry Steppes), there was still a ton to discover. Collectively, 2.6 million accounts earned a Beta Wolf Backpack cosmetic that will unlock in the full game.

Among these millions of hours, the Sorcerer and Necromancer took the top spots as the most played classes. The latter is even more surprising, considering that it wasn’t even available during the first beta weekend. That class is truly a fan favorite.
In terms of slaying, the heroes of Sanctuary were able to collectively destroy 29 trillion minions of hell. They were quite hardy to keep hell at bay, though almost 47 million players met their untimely demises in the process. About 1/5 of these were killed by Ashava the game’s only world boss. Talk about extreme. In turn, just a bit over 100,000 world bosses were put back into the ground.
Ahh, Fresh Meat!!
One of the bigger surprises that sneaked into the Diablo IV beta was the fact that The Butcher existed in-game. The massive behemoth was an optional boss that could potentially spawn in any dungeon, at any point in the area.

Since most players didn’t expect to face off against such a terror, they were mostly unprepared. The boss was able to slay 1.7 million players. In contrast, only 570,000 Butcher bosses were butchered.
The Butcher has been in almost every Diablo game, save for Diablo II. He has gone through many different visual alterations, but he is consistently a brutish, muscular figure with an equally brutal meat cleaver. In Diablo IV, he dropped the Unique Item his signature “The Butcher’s Cleaver“.
Rise of Diablo IV
Diablo IV releases in just over 2 months as of writing. The full launch is slated for June 6, 2023, but pre-purchasing the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Editions will give up to 4 days of Early Access. The game will be available on Windows (via Battle.net), Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles. Both consoles will have couch-coop, and all platforms will have cross-play and cross-save.

Be sure to hop over to the Diablo IV Wiki for more info on the game. We also have an interactive map of the Fractured Peaks that details all of the points of interest as of the Beta. We also have more builds, like the Hydra Control Sorcerer and Shadow Sniper Rogue.
