Diablo 4 Will Receive Yearly Expansions

Blizzard reveals plans for Diablo 4 content with “annual expansions” coming to the online ARPG.

Diablo 4 Will Receive Yearly Expansions

Blizzard has revealed their plans for Diablo 4 content moving forward, including sharing that there will be “annual expansions” for the ARPG. In a recent interview with Dexerto, Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson talked about the overall content plan for the game.

The Diablo 4 calendar will consist of “quarterly seasons” and will roll out expansions every year when talking about the future of the game.

But, you know, it’s years and years. That’s the thing we’re focused on. When you look at the launch of the game and this first season, we see that as building a foundation on which we can build for the future. So, as we look at our quarterly seasons, and we look at our annual expansions, those are the things that we’re really focused on for our live service.

Diablo 4’s Future

There are also plans for further storylines and Fergusson remains pretty confident that Diablo 4’s lifespan will be providing further content for “a long time”. Another comment expressed how previous Diablo titles didn’t quite “live up” to their player’s expectations when it came to the gap between D3 and D4. The 11 years between surely had fans disappointed especially when Diablo Immortal was announced before a full-fledged ARPG. The reaction at BlizzCon 2018 but in order to meet somewhere in the middle offered a PC version as well.

Four quarterly seasons and annual expansions are to make up for lost time, and give players “what they deserve”. But whether can stick to this predicted schedule is also yet to be seen. Blizzard has previously relayed their plans for paid expansions that would be connected to the game’s main storyline.

A Season for Seasons

Blizz have already announced the theme for Season 2, Season of Blood releasing in October. This will bring a whole new theme of Vampiric powers with 5 endgame Bosses, better farming for uniques, plus Renown rewards will carry over to characters that have collected Altars of Lilith and uncovered the Map. It will also be gaining some quality-of-life improvements such as Gems no longer taking up inventory space and a searchable Stash function.

Expect to hunt down vampires and use special Vampiric Powers in a new questline in the Diablo 4 Season of Blood.

There’s still BlizzCon 2023 to look forward to which will be the first in-person convention for the past couple of years. Diablo 4 will be expected to be one of its major features with livestreams spanning over a few days. We could be hearing about a new class, but don’t have hopes for the Blood Knight from Diablo Immortal as it’s not looking likely.
