Diablo 4 Rogue Build – Poison Flurry

The general strategy with this Diablo IV Beginner Build is to first group up enemies and then throw in Caltrops to not only deal some damage but also to Slow them down. You’ll then charge forward with Shadow Step followed by a barrage of Puncture to apply Vulnerable. The great thing about this Basic Skill is it synergizes well with the Rogue’s Specialization, which involves accumulating 3 Combo Points to considerably improve the damage dealt by Flurry. And because there’s a wait time before using it, you won’t be Energy-starved.

Diablo 4 Rogue Build - Flurry in Action with Poison Trap

Activating these Skills works wonders against regular enemies. But remember to trigger Poison Imbuement with Poison Trap first before activating Flurry. Doing so will allow you to deal damage over time (DoT) on top of the huge burst damage you inflict with your Core Skill. Imbuing your Dual Wielded Weapon also lets you imbue Shadow Step with Poison, making it a nice touch the moment you attack an unaffected enemy from behind.

When fighting against Elites and Bosses, you won’t be activating any Ultimate Skill, instead, you’ll be relying on the Aspect of the Protector as early as now to be able to safely go near them. As such, you can easily inflict Poison and then attack them with Flurry.

Diablo 4 Poison Flurry Beginner Rogue Build Guide – Skill Distribution

Each Diablo 4 Rogue Build is made up of the 6 Active Skills they have equipped and changing these Skills can drastically alter the way the Rogue Class in Diablo IV plays. In this section, we’ll take a look at what Skills you should slot for the Poison Flurry Diablo 4 Build. Your Skill distribution should look something like this as you go beyond Level 25:

Diablo 4 Poison Flurry Beginner Rogue Build Guide – How to Handle Packs of Enemies

So there are really several different strategies to employ in this Diablo IV Build for the Poison Flurry Rogue, and these change depending on whether or not you’re facing a large group of enemies or a Boss. Let’s start with a group of enemies first, and we’ll cover how to handle Bosses in the next section.

Caltrops

Having 2 Agility Skills for this Diablo 4 Rogue Build will grant you a lot of mobility in combat, which is essential given that they’re one of the squishiest Classes in the game. With this Skill, you’re not only able to engage enemies by leaping backward and throwing Caltrops but you can also use it to disengage from them.

Caltrops Skill for the Rogue

Next, you’ll want to gain access to Enhanced Caltrops and Disciplined Caltrops. Enhanced Caltrops increases the damage received by affected enemies whereas Disciplined Caltrops doubles the Critical Strike Chance rate against Vulnerable targets. This works well with Puncture, considering that most of them will get affected by this status effect when hit.

Shadow Step

Shadow Step is a gap closer but unlike Dash, you need a target to use it on. This Agility Skill lets you stab your target in the back to deal great damage while making you Unstoppable. So any impairments you may have had before triggering Shadow Step will be removed, and you become momentarily Immune to them.

D4 Rogue Build - Shadow Step to Attack a Target from Behind

Here, you’ll unlock Enhanced Shadow Step to enhance the chances of landing crits against your enemy, making it good against Elites, Bosses, or pesky creatures. Meanwhile, Methodical Shadow Step allows you to Stun them.

Puncture

Next is the Diablo 4 Poison Flurry Rogue Build’s Basic Skill, which is Puncture. With this, you’re able to throw blades at enemies in addition to Slowing them down on the 3rd strike, which is great since you’re saving up 3 of these attacks anyway to build up your Combo Points. You’ll then want to unlock Fundamental Puncture to inflict Vulnerability so that you deal greater damage against them to destroy them faster.

Poison Imbuement

For this D4 Rogue Build, you’re going with Poison Imbuement to deal Poison DoT. It’s a fairly straightforward Imbuement Skill that effectively weakens your foes. You’ll then combine this with Flurry to deliver deadly strikes. For Poison Imbuement’s modifiers, you want to make sure to gain access to Enhanced Poison Imbuement and Blended Poison Imbuement. Not only do you lengthen Poison DoT’s duration but also considerably boost your Poison Damage when you crit.

Poison Trap

Since you’re going for a Poison Diablo 4 Rogue Build, you’ll want to have Poison Trap as your Subterfuge Skill to stack Poison DoT, making it faster to destroy enemies. To make it more effective, you need to unlock Enhanced Poison Trap to Knock Down affected targets, which also works against Elites.

Poison Flurry Diablo IV Rogue Build - Poison Imbuement and Poison Trap

Between Countering Poison Trap and Subverting Poison Trap, you’re better off choosing the first upgrade. This is due to the chance of reusing your Poison Imbuement Skill once enemies step into the Poison Trap, which is very beneficial for the additive Poison DoT. So what you’ll do here is to trigger Poison Imbuement and then set down your Poison Trap to then activate Poison Imbuement as you’re attacking enemies with Puncture and Flurry.

Boss Fights

Boss fights are handled quite similarly in this Diablo 4 Poison Flurry Rogue Build, but there are some key differences. You’ll employ the same Skill rotation but there are two Legendary Aspects you need to make your character more successful, specifically the Aspect of the Protector and the Aspect of Encircling Blades, which I’ll discuss next.

Flurry

Flurry is an incredibly powerful Core Skill because it allows you to strike enemies in front of you multiple times with Poison Damage you deal thanks to Poison Imbuement. And because of your 3 Combo Points, you further amplify the damage you inflict. Aside from maximizing it, you’ll want to gain access to Enhanced Flurry and Improved Fury

Enhanced Flurry heals you for a portion of your Maximum Life every time you damage a Vulnerable target, which happens most of the time. So not only are you attacking enemies effectively but your survivability is also improved despite being in the middle of combat.

Activating Aspect of the Protector Against a Boss

Next is Improved Fury, which makes it so that when you attack even a single Vulnerable target with this Core Skill, it’ll make the rest of the nearby enemies Vulnerable as well. This synergizes extremely well with the Aspect of Encircling Blades, which you can obtain by completing the Forsaken Quarry Dungeon in Fractured Peaks. With this Legendary Aspect, you’re able to spread out the damage of Flurry, not just directed at those in front of you, but even against the creatures beside and behind you. So it’s very effective against Elites and Bosses who come with mobs of their own.

And finally, the passive you should maximize to further improve this D4 Rogue Build’s effectiveness is Malice to amplify your damage against Vulnerable enemies.

Aspect of the Protector

Meanwhile, the Aspect of the Protector is a clear favorite and one that we also included in our Diablo 4 Ultimate Beginner Guide. This allows you to conjure a Barrier the moment you attack Elites and Bosses. Although it only lasts for 10 seconds with a 30-second interval before activating the effect again, the damage shield is very useful in allowing you to focus on stacking Poison DoT faster since you won’t have to keep moving as much to protect yourself when it’s up.

Final Tips

For this Diablo 4 Poison Flurry Rogue Build, you should be on the lookout for gear that gives bonuses to Dexterity for the increased damage of your Skills, Intelligence to improve the chances of landing crits, Life on Kill, Cutthroat Skill Damage, Damage Reduction from Close Enemies, Attack Speed, Critical Strike Chance, Critical Strike Damage, Ranks of Shadow Step and Flurry, Core Skill Damage, and Imbuement Skill Damage.

Diablo 4 Increased Intelligence and Cutthroat Skill Damage for the Poison Flurry Rogue

The great thing about Rogues is in addition to gaining access to Dual Wielding Weapons, they can still equip their Bow, which serves them well in terms of slotting one more aspect. So the other Legendary Aspects you should consider for this Diablo IV Rogue Build are the Aspect of Corruption, Rapid Aspect, and Aspect of the Expectant. Although they can be obtained later on in the campaign, you’ll have a chance to get them from random drops as you’re leveling up.

The Aspect of Corruption considerably boosts the effectiveness of Poison Imbuement against Vulnerable enemies whereas the Rapid Aspect increases the Attack Speed of Puncture to apply this effect to more targets. And finally, the Aspect of the Expectant raises the damage of Flurry when you attack them with your Basic Skill first, which benefits you since you need to save up to 3 Combo Points beforehand.

When you have more Skill points, be sure to fully invest in these three passives in this order – Deadly Venom, Alchemical Advantage, and Debilitating Toxins. Not only will your Poison Damage and Attack Speed be enhanced as a result but you’ll also end up taking less damage from Poisoned targets, thereby improving your survivability!
