In the new video released by Blizzard, it delves in the progression system particularly for endgame of Diablo 4. It explains what comes after completing the main campaign, the introduction of capstone dungeons.

After completing a Capstone Dungeon players will gain access to the first World Tier. These offer different difficulty modifiers. As you complete Capstone Dungeons, you will have access to more difficult World Tiers and of course better loot. For example the first-world tier Adventurer is designed for players who may be newer to the game. While Veteran, the second world tier offers more of a challenge which is offset by better experience and drops. Then players will get into much harder tiers such as Nightmare which is aimed at level 50 to 70 and so on.

Paragon System and Codex of Power

Of course there are ways to grow your power once hitting the endgame. The Paragon board offers a range of boons or glyphs to help enhance your character’s build in personalised way. From what was shown these upgrades offer specific stat increases.

Another system covered is the Codex of Power. After completing a dungeon players have a chance to receive an Aspect. These can be used to make their items even more powerful, or even turn them into Legendary Items.

Challenging Nightmare Dungeons

Revisiting dungeons players may have already run before, but this time returning with a Sigil will alter the “playstyle and the intensity” of the dungeon. On top of being more layers of difficulty, there are further objectives, also Affixes which will alter the way your group will need to work through the dungeon.

The affix Hell Gate will spawn enemies that are not commonly in that area, changing up the fight.

One particular affix explored in the video is Hell Gates. Just as it sounds, these portals open up into hell. Out of it comes a number of enemies that aren’t usually found in that region, meaning you will have to adapt to taking them down along with the usual enemies of that dungeon. This can really change your strategy, especially if you’ve run this particular dungeon in the past. Blizz boasts that there are 120 dungeons in Diablo 4, and any of them can use the Nightmare Sigil to up the ante.

Into the Endgame

Setting up the scene for the endgame, the developers have talked about how the world of Sanctuary is being further influenced by the forces of Hell, known as Helltide areas. These locations have spawns of enemies that are more challenging and will drop shards. The shard can be used to purchase certain rewards from caches available in the world of Sanctuary. These particular areas are dark and have reddish hues to them, depicting a more menacing feel. The environment will also be a factor as there are even falling meteors.

There seems to be quite a lot to do as there are also Bounties which are provided by the Tree of Whispers. Why this tree has it out for the players is unknown but it will give you something in exchange for taking on these tasks. Bounties can be going to slay a number of wolves for example. These side tasks could be a good way in gaining some rewards.

PVP

We also get a brief look at some PVP content, this time with The Fields of Hatred. These contained areas have obvious of Lilith’s poisoning seeping into the world. But here players will be able to fight against each other. Collecting shards is only half the battle as purifying them is the only way to get them back to town. This is where the fun begins, as other players will engage in trying to stop you. A little risk for reward as you may lose items if you fail.

Shards need to be purified in order to take them back to town. Other players will try to stop you in the Fields of Hatred.

So far, the development team have detailed that shards can be used to purchase cosmetic items in town. PVP will also be a way to improve your character’s power.

What do you think about Nightmare Dungeons? Would you have preferred completely different dungeons rather than revisits with affixes? Let us know in the comments below.

Diablo 4 will be launching on June 6th, and four days early for those who pre-purchase Deluxe/Ultimate Editions.
